Strategic Planning Next Steps

Dear Colleagues,

As you know from my previous email sent last month (3/28/2014), we are in the midst of the next strategic planning process in the college. The university is in the process of finalizing its next strategic plan, and that final copy will be available soon. Now it’s time for us to reflect on how we “map” to the university plan, and how we are going to get there.

It may seem like we are always in the middle of such processes! But the strategies developed are important in that they are used to determine where our resources will be best utilized – F&A returns, development activity and funds, and other discretionary moneys. Linking our discretionary funds to our strategic priorities will be critical to our achieving our stated goals.

For your convenience, a website is set up to inform you of our process and to collect any comments: Strategic plan for 2015 to 2020.

In addition, the strategic planning committee wants to engage you in this process as much as possible. We will use a tool developed by a WSU alum at Minapsys, that will allow us to comment on certain issues and to see and rate each other’s comments. We see this as an important tool in the process.

Later this week we will be discussing Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) with one of our stakeholder groups – the College Executive Leadership Board (which is the external advisory board for the College). The planning committee will begin to formulate overarching goals this week and continue with specific goals and an implementation plan. We are interested in your input! Please contact any member of the strategic planning committee to comment, or leave anonymous comments on the website listed above.

The CEA Strategic Planning Committee Membership follows:

  • Dave Field (Chair)
  • Don Bender
  • Phil Gruen
  • Tina Hilding
  • Mike Kessler
  • Jim Petersen
  • John Schneider
  • Behrooz Shirazi

Thank you for your interest and your engagement in developing the next strategic plan for the College of Engineering and Architecture!

Sincerely,
