Co-led by Voiland College’s Jin Liu and Prashanta Dutta, as well as Anthony Nicola at the College of Veterinary Medicine, WSU researchers received a four-year $1.2 million grant funded by the National Institutes of Health to study virus-cell interactions at the moment a virus merges with a cell to initiate an infection – a process known as virus fusion.

Deukhyuon Heo, Frank Brands Analog Distinguished Professor in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, has been named a fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

Mona Ghandi’s project, “Stomata: Optimizing Building Energy Retrofits Through Cyber-Physical Adaptive Spaces, Artificial Intelligence, and Occupants’ Biosignals” is the winner of the 2023 Design Educates Awards and received the Gold Prize in Responsive Design. Her project, “Parasympathy: A Space of Empathy and Active Compassion” received the Bronze Prize in Responsive Design.

Ananth Kalyanaraman named interim EECS director

I am pleased to announce that Ananth Kalyanaraman has been named interim director of Washington State University’s School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.

Ananth will fill the position Partha Pande vacates when Pande becomes interim dean of the Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture in February. Ananth and Partha will serve in their interim roles until a new dean is appointed at which time they will revert to their prior appointments.
