From the Dean
In case you hadn’t heard, Voiland College’s degree offerings recently grew by two when Landscape Architecture and Interior Design were formally reassigned to be full members of the Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture structure.
In 2012, the School of Design and Construction was established by combining Architecture and Construction Management from Voiland College with Landscape Architecture and Interior Design from the College of Agriculture, Human and Natural Resource Sciences. So, for the past five years, SDC has had two programs reporting to Voiland College and two to CAHNRS. Over the course of the past year, SDC Interim Director Greg Kessler, VCEA interim dean Don Bender and CAHNRS dean Ron Mittlehammer worked to construct a deal that worked for all involved. Happily, that final agreement was signed into effect this past July.
I’m excited that they’re here and looking forward to continued research and teaching collaborations between Landscape Architecture, Interior Design and others in Voiland College. So, next time you bump into an LA or ID colleague, please welcome them to the VCEA family.
Go Cougs!

Safety Tip of the Week
In 2011, 4,432 pedestrians were killed and an estimated 69,000 were injured in traffic crashes in the United States.
As a driver, make sure to always watch for pedestrians at all times, especially in poor driving conditions. Always stop for pedestrians at crosswalks and never pass vehicles that are stopped at a crosswalk, as they are stopped to allow a pedestrian to cross.
For more driver safety information, contact Environmental Health and Safety at ehs@wsu.edu.
