Congratulations
Professor Yuehe Lin, has made Clarivate Analytics’ list of scientists whose research has the most influence worldwide in their fields of expertise. Clarivate Analytics, formerly part of Thomson Reuters, tracks the number of times scientists are cited in others’ research papers to find the top 1 percent of influential scientists.
Associate professor Xianming Shi’s research into environmentally-friendly road deicers is featured on the Voiland College home page.
Ma Yunsheng, chairman of Shandong Chambroad Holding Co., Ltd., visited WSU December 9-12. During the four-day-visit, Ma met with WSU and Voiland College leadership and discussed future collaborative opportunities. Chambroad provides WSU with up to $5 million to support five new students each year, up to a total of 20 students simultaneously, in chemical engineering, chemistry or materials science and engineering. Safety Tip of the Week
Watch Your Step
Winter weather means taking extra precautions to ensure safety. Freezing fog, snow and low temperatures are expected through the season. Please remember to be aware of icy road and sidewalk conditions. Promptly complete an incident report for accidental injuries and work-related illnesses and let your immediate supervisors know for investigation.
- Report hazardous and slippery areas to Facilities Services at 335-9000.
- Remember to take off footwear traction devices (cleats/chains) before entering buildings.
- Watch out for snow or water that may have been tracked in from outside.
Tips for Walking on Slippery Surfaces
- Take small steps-shorter than your foot length-to keep your center of balance under you.
- Walk with your toes pointed outward which provides a wider, more stable base of support.
- Turn gradually; a sharp turn results in a force that can cause loss of balance and a fall.
- Keep both hands free for balance, rather than in your pockets.
- Wear shoes with slip-resistant soles, or studded shoe pullovers for walking on icy surfaces.
- Use sidewalks/walkways that have been cleared of ice and snow.
- Hold handrails on stairs or slopes.
- Be careful when getting in and out of vehicles.
