Dutta Appointed Director, School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering

I am pleased to announce Indranath Dutta has accepted my offer as Director of the School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering. His four-year appointment begins March 1, 2018.

MME is Voiland College’s largest school, serving more than 600 certified undergraduate and Ph.D. students at three locations, and has a growing research portfolio of more than $6 million in annual research expenditures. Our talent and reputation, combined with the state’s thriving economy and the growing demands of its high-tech industries, provide us with a prime opportunity to continue our successes in support of WSU’s Drive to 25.

We are also facing challenges. WSU’s current resource constraints, a growing student body, and the ever-present pressures on staff and faculty to continue to provide high levels of excellence requires capable leadership and keen understanding of the many issues we face. MME is fortunate to have someone of Indranath’s capabilities to guide the school during this exciting time.

As many of you know, Indranath has been with WSU since 2008, serving in a variety of leadership positions, including associate dean of research. Prior to joining WSU, he was a professor at the Naval Postgraduate School, and he held visiting positions at the Air Force Research Laboratory, the University of Oxford, Motorola, Intel, and Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University. He has been leading MME as interim director since July, 2017.

Please join me in congratulating Indranath on his appointment.
