John McCloy has received the prestigious Richard M. Fulrath Award from the American Ceramic Society.

Parastoo Alinia won WSU’s Graduate & Professional Student Association’s (GPSA) Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award.

Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering Chair Balasingam Muhunthan has been appointed as an Adjunct Professor at Shandong University, China.

Noah Geilenfeldt, Carter Moore, Eric Hjort, and Wyatt Antonie recently participated in a Dept. of Energy Cyber Defense Competition at PNNL, where they had to protect power grid control systems from hackers. The competition included teams from across the country and was held across three national lab facilities.

Congrats to all the students who competed at the AIChE Regional Conference last weekend!

  • Kristian Gubsch: 3rd place in the Paper Competition.
  • Chem-E-Car Team: 1st place in poster Competition.

Novice Award: Alexa Antalan, mentors Jinwen Zhang, Junna Xin, and Ran Li, “Preliminary Investigation of Waste Cooking Oil-Based Bio-asphalt and Reinforcement with Lignin-Based Epoxy”; and Yoni Rodriguez, mentor Von Walden, “Development of an Air Quality Sensor for Use in Teaching Introductory Environmental Engineering.”

Nominations Sought for 2018 CGS/ProQuest Distinguished Dissertation Awards

The Council of Graduate Schools seeks nominations for the 2018 CGS/ProQuest Distinguished Dissertation Awards in the following fields: 1) Mathematics, Physical Sciences, and Engineering and 2) Social Sciences.

Sponsored jointly by CGS and ProQuest and first presented in 1981, these awards are made annually to individuals who, in the opinion of the award committee, have completed dissertations representing original work that make an unusually significant contribution to the discipline.

Each university may only submit one nomination from each field.

VCEA Faculty- Please work with your school director if you would like to nominate a student for the award. Submissions are due no later than May 1, 2018.
