Laboratory Exploratory

Alexandra Navrotsky Institute for Experimental Thermodynamics

Alexandra Navrotsky Institute for Experimental Thermodynamics explores the blurry interfaces between surface science, materials chemistry, nanogeoscience and nanotechnology, the goal of which is to understand the fundamental and general reaction mechanisms on surfaces and in pores for rational design and synthesis of nanostructured materials with unique functionality and high performance.

Inclusive Education Ideas

Chunk

‘Chunk’ a lecture into 10-15-minute segments. Between segments engage students with active learning (discussion, problem-solving, informal quizzes, etc.) Stage a figurative “coffee break” about twenty minutes into the period: tell a story, invite students to put down pens and pencils, or refer to a current event.

Be Safe Cougs

Helmets Save Lives

Wearing a bicycle helmet has been estimated to reduce the chance of head injury by 50 percent, and the chance of head, face, or neck injury by 33 percent. Check that your helmet fits, by making sure it is level on your head, touching all around, comfortably snug but not tight. The helmet should not move more than about an inch in any direction, and must not be able to be pulled off.
