Hussein Zbib Memorial Friday, March 6

Dear Voiland Community:

I want to let you know a memorial gathering for our friend and colleague Hussein Zbib will be held Friday, March 6 at 11 AM in the CUB Jr. Ballroom, in Pullman.

Hussein passed away in Pullman on February 10.

A member of the School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering faculty since 1988, he was recognized as an international leader in dislocation dynamics and plasticity theory and for his contributions in the fields of mechanics and materials science and engineering.

He developed models and theories used by materials scientists and engineers around the world, improving understanding of the basic mechanics underlying deformation of metals. As director of WSU’s Computational Mechanics and Materials Science Laboratory, he conducted research in the field of multi-scale theoretical modeling and predictions of the thermo-mechanical behavior of advanced materials.

In 1994 and 2015, Voiland College honored Hussein with our Anjan Bose Outstanding Researcher Award. Washington State University recognized his contributions by naming him Regents Professor in 2018.

Today’s WSU Insider features a full story on Hussein’s accomplishments.

We offer our deepest condolences to Hussein’s wife, Marcia, his family, friends, and loved ones.

If you would like to send a note of condolence, the family will be glad to receive them. Memorial donations are suggested to the Excellence Fund of the School of Mechanical & Materials Engineering at WSU. Online condolences may be sent to Kimball Funeral Home & Crematory.

During this time of sadness I encourage those who feel they may need additional support to contact Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), the Office of the Dean of Students, as well as the Voiland College Dean’s Office for any emotional or assistance you may need.

Sincerely,

Mary Rezac's signature.
