Anika VanDeen was awarded the 2020 WSU Woman of Distinction – Student Award.

Ashley Vu won Voiland College’s Three-Minute Thesis Competition.

The Daily Evergreen featured a story on Steve Austin’s landscape architecture students who are working on a year-long project focused on developing Pullman’s Gateway District.

The Daily Evergreen featured a story on bioengineering students Jackson Rieb, Kathryn Lober and Sarah Schroeder who competed last week at the fifth annual Hollomon Health Innovation Challenge.

Harold Frank Scholars Nam Nguyen and Aaron Ramadan were featured in a WSU Insider story about their invitation to the Clinton Global Initiative University.

Ayumi Manawadu is the co-first place winner at the regional Western Association Of Graduate Schools Three-Minute Thesis Competition.

Mona Ghandi’s Morphogenesis Lab is displaying their work as part of the exhibition, “States of Flux,” at the Lewis-Clark State College Center for Arts & History in Lewiston through April 4.

Researchers led by Indranil Chowdhury have found that nanoscale particles of the most commonly used plastics tend to move through the water supply, especially in fresh water, or settle out in wastewater treatment plants, where they end up as sludge, in landfills, and often as fertilizer. They have published their work in the high-impact journal, Water Research.

Led by graduate student Biresh Joardar and Partha Pande, WSU researchers have recently developed a computer architecture that achieves similar accuracy as conventional graphical processing units (GPUs) but works more than 50 times faster.

Oaks Academic Technology Award – Nominations Due March 23

Nominations are now being accepted for the $3,000 Oaks Academic Technology Award, which recognizes a faculty member’s innovative application of an existing technology to transform teaching and learning in their classroom (face-to-face, online, videoconferencing).

Affordable Learning Grant Applications Due March 23

The Office of the Provost is offering Affordable Learning Grants to fund faculty exploration and adoption of affordable learning materials. Grants ranging from $1,500 to $4,500 are available for faculty at all levels and all WSU locations.

Smith Teaching and Learning Grants – Apply by March 23

Faculty with innovative ideas to enhance teaching and learning are encouraged to apply by March 23 for a Smith Teaching and Learning Grant of up to $5,000.

Top Ten Senior Nominations Due March 27

Now available! A new set of Current and Pending Support Frequently Asked Questions (PDF) (FAQs) that accompany the revised version of the NSF Proposal & Award Policies & Procedures Guide (PAPPG) (NSF 20-1), effective June 1, 2020. The FAQs address policy questions related to the PAPPG clarifications to the current and pending support coverage, as well as questions regarding use of an NSF-approved format for current and pending support. The FAQs will be updated periodically as appropriate. If you have any questions regarding the 2020 PAPPG, please contact the DIAS/Policy Office by email at policy@nsf.gov.
