VCEA IT, You & Dean’s Town Hall Tomorrow

Good evening, everyone!

Our first full virtual week is almost in the books. Hopefully you are all doing well and managing the reality we find ourselves in. I need to share some important information with you all, so please read this in it’s entirety.

Town Hall Tomorrow 3:00pm

First up is that Dean Rezac is hosting another town hall tomorrow at 3:00pm. Please attend if you are able to discuss our challenges and successes for the past week. In an effort to avoid the disruptions of our last town hall, we are requiring that everyone visit wsu.zoom.us and Sign In with your WSU credentials or use the Zoom application on your computer, tablet or smartphone and sign in. The meeting will let you in if you are an Authenticated User. If you find yourself in the Waiting room, it is because you are not authenticated.

Another step we are creating is to require a password. If prompted, please enter it when joining. Below is the Zoom information.

VCEA IT Website

Your friendly VCEA IT department has created a website for you in an attempt to be a one stop shop for all things Zoom, Blackboard, Teleworking, etc. Please visit the website for information, Zoom tutorials and Trainings, tips and tricks and anything else we think you might need (or want) to know. Check it out when you have a moment.

WSU VPN Changes

If the past 2 weeks have not been crazy enough for you, let’s throw in some significant networking changes. WSU Central IT has updated and expanded their VPN. It initially caused us some hiccups, but we have worked through those. If you are a faculty, staff, or student that was using the old Cisco VPN, you need to switch over to the new Global Protect VPN. Information on downloading and installing the new and improved VPN client.

What do you need, IT wise?

If you aren’t aware by now, web cameras and document cameras are the Toilet Paper of the tech world. Amazon doesn’t have them and if they did, you won’t see it for at least a month. Do you have a hardware need to help you work remotely? Let us see if we can help. We may have some hardware that we can use to help you out or we might be able to come up with creative solutions for all things tech; PCs, cameras, microphones, headsets, etc. I can’t promise we’ll have what you need, but we’d sure love to help you out if we can. Either reach out to me directly or to my team to see what we can come up with.

Do your students know about the loaner Chromebooks that WSU purchased to help? They’ll even mail them to students.

How do you reach us NOW!?!?

Right now, we are staffing a persistent Zoom channel for you to connect to us and get help.

You can always reach out via the normal methods: by creating a ticket; by email (support.vcea@wsu.edu); or by phone: 509-335-6773.

That’s all I have for now. Don’t hesitate to reach out for help.

Thanks,
Tony
