Dr. Xinghui Zhao has been named Director of the School of Engineering and Computer Science (ENCS) at WSU Vancouver.
Dr. Zhao is an Associate Professor of Computer Science in the program and has been on the faculty there since 2012. Her research focuses on the broad areas of parallel and distributed systems, energy-efficient computing, machine learning, and big data computing. Her research won Best Paper Awards at multiple international conferences, and she has been actively providing service to her professional societies, such as IEEE and ACM. Dr. Zhao teaches courses in software engineering and distributed systems, and has advised numerous students in the conduct of research. Two of her students won the prestigious Chancellor’s Award for Student Achievement. Dr. Zhao has also participated in various committees in ENCS, Vancouver campus, and at the university level.
“I’m impressed with Dr. Zhao’s commitment to the development of ENCS on the Vancouver campus and as part of the Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture. She will be a great addition to the Vancouver leadership team,” says Renny Christopher, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.
Dr. Zhao succeeds Professor Hakan Gurocak as School Director. Dr. Gurocak has served as ENCS director since the school’s inception in 2004. He is leaving the ENCS Director’s role to serve as the Director of Professional and Corporate Education for WSU Vancouver.
“Hakan has played a foundational role in the development of ENCS and of the Vancouver campus. The campus has benefitted deeply from his leadership,” says Mary Rezac, Dean, Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture.
Please join us in welcoming Dr. Zhao to the role and in thanking Dr. Gurocak for his years of service to ENCS.
