The Protium Company, a WSU-founded startup that rose out of Jacob Leachman’s Hydrogen Properties for Energy Research lab, was featured at the national Innovation and Entrepreneurship Showcase last week.

WSU engineering students Grace Harris and Alyssa Hovenkotter received $5,000 SEL engineering scholarships.

The School of Design and Construction will receive one of the five new WSU faculty positions that have been created to help promote equity and diversity across the Washington State University System.

Dec. 16 Workday Checklist

Go to workday.wsu.edu and sign in with your Network ID (NID) and password.

Overtime eligible employees: enter your time worked in Workday, starting with the beginning of the week (December 13). It’s okay to duplicate what’s on your paper time report for December 1-15.

Check your time off balances. Something not right? Go to support.workday.wsu.edu, choose “Human Resource Services,” and then fill out the form for “Leave Balances or Leave Accrual is incorrect.”

Review the items listed in the Workday: First 30 Days Employee Guide, especially regarding personal information, payment elections, and tax elections.

President’s Employee Excellence Awards – Nominations Due Dec. 31

The award is presented annually to recognize outstanding contributions by WSU administrative professional and classified employees. Staff at all WSU locations are eligible to be nominated for this award. Award criteria include outstanding contributions made by the employee regarding productivity of the University; innovative problem solving; positive working relations; university and community service. Award recipients each receive $2,500 and will be recognized at the annual Showcase event to be held in during the spring 2021.

Nominations will be accepted through Thursday, December 31, 2020 at 5pm.

Recognize Your Student Employee – Nominations Due Jan.29

Each year Washington State University and the National Student Employment Association (NACE) recognizes the outstanding contributions and achievements of students who work while attending college through the National Student Employee of the Year (SEOTY) award. Nominations this year are due January 29.

LIFT Faculty Fellowship Applications Due Jan. 12

LIFT, the faculty development component of the Transformational Change Initiative (TCI), is welcoming applicants for the fourth cohort of our system-wide program. All WSU faculty from all locations are encouraged to apply. The application deadline is Tuesday, January 12, 2021.

Ugly Holiday Sweater Contest

It’s that time of year again! Send us a photo of your ugly holiday sweater by Dec. 15. The ugliest sweaters as voted by our Instagram followers and VCEA judges win a Voiland College t-shirt!

Canvas Starts Spring 2021

With full access to the Canvas pilot, all WSU instructors have the option to migrate their Blackboard courses over to the new Learning Management Software (LMS) for the upcoming spring semester, which they can do by contacting their department’s course scheduler or campus scheduler. Faculty and staff will also soon be able to request a “sandbox” course. Visit WSU Insider or AOI to learn more and sign up for Canvas training.

Cougar Card Replacement

WSU Cougar Card readers on the exterior of the PACCAR, Sloan, Dana, ETRL, and EE/ME buildings will be replaced early next spring, likely in February/March 2021.

WSU Cougar Card Center, in the basement of the Compton Union Building (CUB), is offering a free Cougar Card in-person replacement if your current card does not have the proximity capability. If you’re not sure if your card has a proximity chip in it, you can call 335-CARD (335-2273) and they can tell you if your card has it or not over the phone.
