WSU will begin offering a new undergraduate cybersecurity degree starting in 2023.

Led by Omar Al-Hassawi, WSU faculty members are developing a curriculum for building science certificates and a degree focused on carbon-conscious construction. The program aims to close a gap in comprehensive energy efficiency training for students as well as for professionals who are already in the workforce.

A team from Washington State University and Nissan has integrated a catalyst layer into metal-supported solid oxide fuel cell (MS-SOFC), enabling successful operation with a direct ethanol feed.

Honors College / materials science and engineering major John Bussey was one of three WSU recipients of the 2022 Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship.

The NW Innovation Resource Center and WSU Everett have signed an agreement to award a Data Analytics Certificateto participants who successfully complete the WA Data Bootcamp.

Researchers from Mayo Clinic and Washington State University recently discovered that electrochemical bandages that contain hydrogen peroxide could be an effective alternative to antibiotics when managing wound infections.

Anita Vasavada and a team of investigators from WSU and Providence St. Luke’s Rehabilitation Medical Center received seed grant funding from the WSU Spokane Steve Gleason Institute for Neuroscience for a study to measure neck strength and muscle activity in people with ALS.

NSF GEN-4 ERC Competition Webinars and Q&A

The NSF ERC program is pleased to present a series of two webinars and Q&A sessions in support of the upcoming GEN-4 ERC competition announced in solicitation NSF 22-580. The first of these webinar/Q&A sessions will be on June 27, 2022, from 11:00 am – noon ET and it will be coordinated by UIDP. NSF ERC program director team members will be ready to answer your questions about the current funding opportunity for new centers, as well as sharing ways for industry to collaborate with ERCs and their impact on the R&D ecosphere. The webinar is free of charge, but registration is required. The second webinar/Q&A session will be on August 4, 2022 from noon-1:00 PM ET and further details will be coming soon.

SMART Symposium: Creating Leaders of the Future – July 12 – 14

Listen, engage, and collaborate at SMART’s annual three-day symposium. Department of Defense (DoD) science and technology leaders chart a course on future priorities, while SMART scholars present their own journeys and technical contributions towards these goals.

NextProf Pathfinder Future Faculty Workshop – Apply by June 22

The University of California San Diego and the University of Michigan are pleased to announce the 2022 NextProf Pathfinder Future Faculty Workshop on October 2-4, hosted in La Jolla, California.

This workshop is designed for 1st and 2nd year Ph.D. students and master’s students intending to apply to a Ph.D. program. NextProf Pathfinder prepares participants for a successful career in academia over three days by offering information from current faculty on what it takes to build a competitive graduate school record to obtain a faculty position in the professoriate.

NextProf Pathfinder encourages those in groups underrepresented in the engineering and computer science professoriate to pursue careers in academia. It is open to U.S. citizens and permanent residents of any ethnicity, race, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, ability, veteran status, socio-economic status, first generation to college status, and religion. All travel and housing costs are covered for accepted applicants. Applications are now open, and will close on June 22.
