Amit Bandyopadhyay has been named to the editorial board of the International Journal of Extreme Manufacturing.

Recent grad Jessica Sly (Erickson) received the 2022 Alfred R. Cooper Young Scholars Award from the Glass and Optical Materials Division of the American Ceramic Society for her undergraduate glass research entitled “Lithium-Iron Silicate Glasses as Simulants of High-Iron Nuclear Waste Glass.

Caleb Valdez-Copeland received a Station1 Frontiers Fellowship.

Summer Undergraduate Research Symposium July 27

The Office of Undergraduate Research will host a poster symposium of the 80 REU summer participants from 10 am to 1 pm in Smith CUE Atrium on Wednesday, July 27.

WSU instituted new brand guidelines last year. Check with your school/department if you need your department’s logo, and you can download many elements from the WSU branding website.

Voiland College Tutoring Begins Aug 23

Students looking for tutoring assistance can find it starting Tuesday, August 23. Visit the VCEA Tutoring web page to find tutoring offerings, location, and availability.

Livermore National Laboratory Fellowships – Apply by Oct. 3

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory has posted two new opportunities for consideration by university PhD candidates – the John S. Foster, Jr. and the Harold Brown Postdoctoral Fellowships. These are Design Physics Fellowships in the Weapons and Complex Integration (WCI) Directorate and recognize individuals whose research aligns with the Laboratory’s national security mission. Applicants must either be in the process of completing their Ph.D. (within one year) or have received their Ph.D.

ELEVATE Teaching Conference Aug 16

Online registration is now open for Washington State University’s inaugural, annual conference to support faculty and graduate students to “engage learners, enhance voices, and advance teaching excellence” (ELEVATE). The all-day, system-wide conference will be held concurrently on all six WSU campuses. The conference program features invited presenters from WSU recognized for their reflective and evidence-based teaching practices, interactive sessions designed to foster collaboration, and a dynamic lunch-time workshop.

Research Leadership Program – Nominations due Aug 1

Nominations are now open for the Fall 2022 Research Leadership Program.

The program begins with an 8‑session research leadership course lead by the AtKisson Training Group (ATG) and two one‑on‑one executive coaching sessions with the ATG trainer. This first phase will provide the basis for developing the leadership and communication skills needed for multidisciplinary peer research groups. The second phase, facilitated by ORAP and established WSU research leaders, includes additional sessions that will provide an inside look at the realities of leading large projects and engaging stakeholders and collaborators. Participants who complete both phases will be provided a peer mentor and priority support from Office of Research Advancement and Partnership’s proposal consultants.

Participants must be either an associate or early‑stage full professor who have the potential to lead large multidisciplinary teams. Find out more information on the program and how to submit a nomination (self‑nominations are welcome).
