A new Bachelor of Science degree in cybersecurity, which will be available to students on the WSU Everett, Pullman and Tri-Cities campuses, was approved by the WSU Board of Regents.

Grant Norton will be recognized with the Sahlin Faculty Award for Excellence in Leadership at WSU Showcase.

Anjan Bose co-wrote an op/ed in the Spokesman Review on the subject of the Clean Energy Fund.

Starting this fall, WSU will be providing more opportunities for professionals to expand their engineering skills with two new online programs in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

Birgitte Ahring was interviewed by Oregon Public Broadcasting about her kangaroo gut bacteria research.

Katie Zhong was interviewed by KOMO TV about her corn air filter research.

Devon McCornack will represent Voiland College at the WSU Three-Minute Thesis Competition on March 29.

David G. Pollart Center for Arts and Humanities – Public Lecture Series:
In November 2022, the WSU Regents voted to rename the President’s residence on the Pullman campus in honor of Professor Ida Lou Anderson. Please join Trevor Bond and Phil Gruen for an illustrated presentation on the life of a remarkable Washington State College faculty member and graduate of Colfax High School who trained and inspired a generation of broadcasters including Edward R. Murrow. The panelists will provide an overview of Ida Lou Anderson’s life and an architectural history of the Anderson House.

Teaching Academy Awards – Apply by March 15

Applications are open for three Teaching Academy awards, with all materials due March 15.

The awards are:

All acknowledge the efforts, accomplishments, and professional development of WSU faculty and are in line with the Teaching Academy’s goal to elevate excellence in teaching and learning.

WESKA Entrepreneurship – Register by April 30

WESKA is an immersive, weeklong accelerator boot camp June 12 – 16 that is open to WSU postdoctoral, doctoral and master’s students from any discipline or WSU location who want to learn more about entrepreneurship.

Engineering SURCA Judges Needed

Faculty members, post-docs, and professionals are invited to consider signing up to judge presentations at SURCA, in the CUB Senior Ballroom on Monday, March 27. Serving as a judge is a great way to advance the scholarship of students and research standing of the university, as well as to promote your own field, program, and college.

Top Ten Senior Awards – Nominations Due March 24

The Top Ten Senior Awards provide an opportunity for faculty, staff, community members, and other students to nominate a deserving senior for their contributions to Washington State University. Nominations must be received by March 24.

Oaks Academic Technology Award – Nominations Due March 28

Nominations are now being accepted for the Oaks Academic Technology Award. The self-nominated award recognizes instructors for their innovative application of technology to transform teaching and learning in their classroom (face-to-face, asynchronous online, or videoconferencing).

The winner will receive $3,000 in faculty development funds, distributed to the award winner’s academic department. To apply or learn more about the award, including the evaluation rubric, visit the Oaks award application webpage.

WSU Alumni Association Award – Nominations Due April 7

Deadline extended! The WSUAA is now accepting award nominations to recognize WSU alumni, faculty/staff, students, volunteers, and friends whose hard work and dedication make Washington State University and our Alumni Association the best organizations in the world!

GPSA Dissertation Grant – Apply Today

The Awards and Scholarships Committee offers dissertation grants to support the research needs of WSU Ph.D. students. These grants will be awarded on a rolling basis to help cover expenses generated as students work to complete their dissertation projects.

Facilities Update – March

Three firms have been selected to participate in the Request for Proposals (RFP) process to select a company to design and build Schweitzer Engineering Hall. The selection process will be finalized later this spring.

WSU is requesting $40 million in state funding to build the new facility, with a further $40 million of philanthropic funds being contributed to the project. The state of Washington budget will be finalized by this summer. Look here for future updates as we continue to break ground on Schweitzer Engineering Hall in early 2024.

Cougar Safe Rides provides safe transportation to and from campus most nights. Call or text WSU-267-SAFE (978-267-7233) to arrange a free ride.

The WSU Police Cadet Corp offers a free foot escort service to and from campus most evenings. Call 509-432-2328 for details.

If you are on campus and need immediate help, look for one of the many emergency blue light telephones located around the area. Push the button and you are directly connected to the Whitcom 911 Communications Center.
