Comments on Poor Experience
Why did you select “much worse than expected?”
- Students are clearly confused by concepts, but the instructor doesn’t recognize it and moves on
Comments on Good Experience
Why did you select “much better than expected?”
- Getting more time to finish the project and assignments
- I’ve Fiji’s many amazing opportunities with VCEA to help me in my academic and career
- Easy manipulated schedule and easy contact with students
- Professors are so accesible and caring
- I got used to zoom and I kind of like it now
- Everything is taught well
- Professors are interacting with us just as usual and always keep us informed
- My ECE courses, so far have been taught by knowledgable but respectful instructors who provide abundant tools for success without making their courses overly easy.
- The classes seem somewhat easier online. And it actually makes more sense for the classes to be online, at least as a computer science major
- I have been incredibly impressed with how well my professors have adapted to online learning!
- Dr. Iannelli incorporated a new ‘white board’ application that allows him to draw equations and figures while we can still see him on camera. It seems to work really well.
- all of my professors are involved and dedicated to teaching us
- I find the classes easier to follow and using recordings significantly helps when I miss something
- I thought that professors were not going to be understanding, but professors have been very welcoming and understating of the situation
- I am doing my work from my home office. This saves me a lot of time. I do not commute to the Vancouver campus and I have all my textbooks next to me. Professors have made the lectures very easy to watch. I love that I can rewatch a lecture or watch it at a time that is more convenient to me. Sometimes I skip a few lectures, then I binge watch them while skipping the unnecessary content in them. I am also more organized, my assignments are all typed of and very clean, saved as pdfs in organized folders.
- Because things went smooth and I never faced any problem
- Yes, there was a period of time of adjustment but once that was all settled, there was a good consistent system.
- For our capstone they are letting us get extremely involved and yet have free will when it comes to design. We are collaborating and working individually.
- Because the professors each have a way of teaching their class but for the most part the content delivery is still the same as if I were in person learning.
Comments on Positive Professor Actions
Thinking back, what things, if any, did your Voiland College professors do that made your online education experience better?

- They reminded us every class what we needed to get done. Always asked if we had question or needed help in anything.
- Clear powerpoint presentation were helpful. Even easier to see than in person.
- Andy Ofallon, Nadra Guizani, Assefaw Gebremedhin
- breaks during class
- N/A. Doesn’t seem like they are adjust curriculum to online format.
- Recording Zoom lectures
- Coverting class resources to Canvas and using online tools to help us check our homework assignments quickly.
- Example problems and supplementary materials
- I have been able to do well mostly because I am able to go back and watch recorded lectures
- acknowledge that these circumstances are difficult and understand what we are going through
- Providing recorded lectures
- They posted everything and communicated well.
- Constant communication is key.
- Relatively lenient with unexpected circumstances
- Nothing, it’s just the pandemic that made students have no motivation throughout a screen.
- Adjusting as needed: it’s helpful when lectures are recorded and available post class, it’s helpful to have a clear and organized coarse schedule, creating clear organized digital notes to reference: with class, life, homework all being at home, extra organization with the online platform is extremely helpful
- specifically arch 215, making a clear and regular schedule of assignments is incredibly helpful
- They were mostly understanding
- Allowing more in class time to work on things and teaching material from experience
- Quick response to emails. Take home test with more than 24 hours to do them.
- Dr. Di Wu writes out his notes and explains all of the equations thoroughly
- Recording the lectures so I can rewatch them and go over the information again.
- attempted to make the classes seem as normal as possible despite having to be online
- they have been working much slower and with the students more. Also have gotten more organized than last semester
- Require cameras on so they can gauge how fast to proceed through lecture. Communicating expectations each lecture. Fast responses to email. Being willing to answer questions during lecture. Great attitudes.
- If lectures were taught through slide presentations, the professors would then upload those slides as PDF’s for us to download and have on our own computers. Also having ‘drop in’ office hours where we could just join a Zoom meeting in progress and ask them questions was very helpful.
- Asked if homework dates worked for us, and very flexible with schedules and office hours.
- trying to be more involved with students
- They have got a lot of email to notify students about homework and zoom records are also super supportive documents.
- Responded quickly to questions and willing to meet one on one over zoom calls
- andy ofallon
- Allowed for lectures to be recorded for future reference
- N/A
- Making classes/things due asynchronously from the actual schedule if in person.
- Give us a very structured class where we know of due dates and what is coming up.
- Flexibility of attendance and being open for office hours! I’ve had an even harder time engaging with school this semester than last so it’s nice to have some grace and the ability to watch lectures over if I missed something.
- The ones with the best online experience offer weekly zoom sessions outside of office hours and provide lectures for the material.
- Going above and beyond with giving demonstrations for the assignments!
- I like how a lot of my professors posted their lecture notes before class, it made it easier to follow along.
- Clint Cole proceeded to hand deliver a device I needed that wasn’t available for shipping
- They were flexible on assignments and accounted for technically difficulties
- encourage having cameras on
- When working in teams, some professors allowed students to pick their teams. For the students that did not have a team, the professor assigned them a team. This worked really well since I did not have a way to contact all my classmates like I did in person.
- Lenient due dates and take-home exams. 4 of my 5 classes have large assignments or quizzes scheduled on the same day every week, plus homework and lectures.
- Assefaw in CPTS317 starts the class with a random warm-up question and I enjoy those. He seems really nice too
- Be a bit more lenient on due dates
- I enjoyed the outlines they used to teach, it was much easier to follow along with. As well as being there for students when we needed help.(office hours or appointment)

- Professors in the Voiland College catered to every students’ needs by being understanding and helpful with all of the challenges that we face during this time.
- Always willing to help!
- good communication and fast response time
- Humor
- hold their zooms in the actual classroom, that was pretty cool.
- They asked for our feedback to make our learning experience best for us students
- The major change I have seen this semester is that professors are expecting students to read the material before class and then spend more class time on discussion or related activities. This helps me to get a lot more out of class time than if it was only lecture or self-directed exercises.
- Dr. Hudson has a very good online platform.
- Provided multiple resources to different club events and seminars
- Theissen prepared an amazing and organized course. Really helped me develop a structure for online schooling.
- They either prepared slides ahead of time or had good lighting when using a document camera. Those two ways are ideal, or if a professor hand wrote the notes before class and uploaded them neatly for everyone to see/use
- Professors that were genuinely interested in their student’s ideas made a friendly and good learning environment.
- The professors were flexible with the schedules and did not hold it perfectly to 50 minute meetings.
- Guided notes and urging students to seek out tutoring.
- always warning us to communicate with them when having trouble
- Not use zoom, but panopto for lectures.
- One professor has a really nice voice like the “How It’s Made” guy, it makes lectures very easy to watch.
- They understood that some us have internet connection problems
- Being engaged to the course while also being very helpful and patient.
- Include more time for exams, include more examples
- Honestly my professors last semester were much better about being understanding of technical issues
- No
- Post more examples problems
- They were very engaging and helpful. They did their best to get their students involved.
- Made themselves more available, built flexibility into grading, built flexibility into deadlines.
- Recorded lectures
- The teachers have been accommodating and flexible to help students during their office hours
- Using Crowdmark for assignment and exam submissions. Using either Blackboard or Canvas instead of mass emailing everyone all the time.
- They interacted with the class and explained topics very thoroughly.
- Set realistic expectations for the pace and workload.
- Have extra office hours
- They made sure to stop before moving on from every slide to make sure everyone was ready.
- Recording Lectures, drawing on the screen, sometimes making attendance mandatory
- Provided us with online tutoring options.
- prompt communication
- They were personable with us. They would talk with us before and after class and got to know us
- Engaging students through group projects.
- The best classes I have had online, are the ones that use blackboard to clearly document when assignments are due and use in class tools such as quizzes or verbal questions to check participation.
- taking notes online is easier because you can clearly hear the teacher and see what they are writing, I also really apreciate the teachers that give you a detailed class assignment list.
- Being flexible with class recordings and in class work.
- Make assignments very clear both in class and on blackboard
- Replied to emails more often
- Took the time to work with up on these new problems
- When the professor had a tablet that they could use to screen share and take notes on, the notes were much easier to see and read
- Understand that online teaching and learning is not in person teaching and learning. Then adjust accordingly.
- Record lectures, take home exams, help more
- More thorough lectures, less strict due dates. A little bit lighter workload makes the subjects easier to understand, especially with everything being online.
- They came up with new assignments and ways to interact with others, even on zoom.
- It is pretty hard to replicate in person classes in an online setting, I think what they did most to improve my experience was assigning stuff that gave us more hands on practice.
- Recorded the lectures
- I appreciate that the school recognizes the three day weekends as rest days for students. Most of my professors understand that students need a break and have decided to schedule homework and exams around those days off.
- Post links to helpful websites
- I learn much better when professors write out their notes in real time instead of having a PowerPoint to annotate. It’s also helpful to take polls (quick multiple choice questions) in class to evaluate my understanding on topics and also assess where I compare against my peers.
- Were reasonable on difficulty of exams and homeworks with virtual classroom
- Lots of understanding in terms of assignment dates and level of explanation needed to convey a message online.
- Recorded lectures. Most professors did not do this but this is a nice feature to have for studying purposes.
- Try to engage the class, as best as possible
- Increasing TA office hours as well as theirs, spending more time on making sure everyone is on the same page.
- Give office hours
- More flexible time about office hour
- Most recorded their lectures
- Open books and open notes exam help to reduce stressed and anxiety
- Gave extended time and less harsh grading
- having one on one time to discuss projects via zoom and be reasonable and undertanding when I had difficulty completing class work.
- Rick Cherf is cut throat, to the point, understanding, and very clear with his lecture and assignment instructions! I love the transparency. My com 102, Univ 497 classes are really fun, the instructors are clear in their class expectations and Chef Jamie is VERY funny. He teaches my HBM course with such enthusiasm and I love Chef Jasons, Jessica’s, and Jamie’s energy!
- live lectures are great
- Added more avenues for communication (discord/slack channels, etc), responded quickly to email.
- Lots of examples and had their cameras on. Also engaged with students and was easy to talk to
- Hold office hours.
- Nothing in particular
- My education experience has been enhanced in MSE403 by the consistency with lectures. Many classes have inconsistent schedules for lecture times making it challenging to get in a rhythm.
Comments on Improvements for Professors
What things, if any, could your Voiland College professors improve upon to make your online education experience better?
- Better preparation on how to use computers and teaching software. Currently OK
- can’t think of anything
- I would say specifically feedback tests/quizzes so that we know if we are understanding the content correctly. Sometimes we just get a grade and don’t exactly know where we went wrong.
- Grading with more explanations
- More upper classes during summer
- Don’t question yourself. The moment you do, you confuse us too.
- Giving us spring break as I am very drained
- Flexible about deadline
- Making all lecture material available after classes.
- less work and more understanding
- Nothing I can think of rn
- I have one professor that doesn’t want us to take notes, but also expects us to take notes at the same time, talks WAY too fast, gives presentations that are over 100 slides with large, full paragraphs on every slide, but claims none of that information will be on the test…? I’m all for learning about the world of design and construction, but it’s hard to learn anything when there’s an overload of information.
- Take feedback
- For studio classes (Architecture) allowing us more time to work during the 4 hour class time rather than giving us no work time and expect all of the work time we were always given during studio to be assigned as homework.
- Adding more assignments to the Blackboard calendar so we could see more due dates in one place.
- Do more group things to get us more engaged with other students
- Be more interested in what they are teaching us. A few instructors have expressed their disinterest in being there verbally
- More teacher student connections, maybe professors relating to students on a more personal level more frequently
- I do not like the combination virtual and in person classes at all. It does not work. Especially with some group members online and some in person.
- Record everything. There are still professors who do not do so.
- N/A
- yes
- Use time more effectively. Three hour online lectures/labs aren’t effective or enjoyable for students or professors. This excess of time could be used to work on existing projects, elevate work quality, or used to simply give people a break. Looking at a screen for hours every day isn’t good for longterm physical or mental health.
- I think my professors are doing well. There is just no way to make online school the same as in-person.
- More examples for work they give us so we get a better idea of what were doing
- Some professors should be a little more flexible with their expectations with online learning compared to typical in person learning.
- Nothing that comes to mind. I can tell they are doing the best they can to provide all students with a good education.
- Make all professors record lectures
- On time to zoom, be organized on Blackboard, record lectures, clear homework assignments from purchased textbooks, examples and assignments relevant to field to prepare us better for jobs.
- Was not a fan of proctor u , just because I was constantly being kicked out of the testing service and it was annoying.
- Keep to the course schedule, too often class starts late and ends late.
- Have one dedicated platform
- Communication skills
- Having live lectures rather than a bunch of pre recorded ones
- N/A Have only had 2 Voiland College professors so far.
- Being specific about which textbook sections and/or examples- rather than chapters in their entirety- would be helpful.
- Mix up office hours with group office hours and one on one office hours
- If they could brainstorm a better way to submit projects. I don’t know how it could be improved but it would make things run smoother.
- Clear schedules with due dates and what is assigned, when tests are, and such are really nice. Some teachers didn’t post a course schedule, and that makes things very challenging because I have to constantly be checking the websites for when a new assignment is posted. Even tentative schedules with just general information about what homeworks and tests are assigned when is very helpful.
- Fix connectivity issues
- online makes the subjects seem a lot dryer and dont give the opportunity to meet classmates as often
- Teach less from powerpoints
- Allow more hands on labs if possible
- I also think that it would be good to have more structured homework schedules, especially when we are using so many programs (Blackboard, Canvas, Crowdmark, and Perusall)
- keep homework load same as before covid
- Provide less homework and try to have more discussion about the problem we learn
- moving to asynchronous classes
- Provide additional examples in lecture to solidify concepts and help to easily transition into homework material.
- Demand a lot so soon
- N/A
- I think theyre doing okay thus far, I know they did not sign up to teach virtually but some may need more technical training.
- I think they’re doing a good job
- Be sure to have a quality internet connection. Several teachers have had low bandwidth and latency.
- More interactive lectures
- More extra credit opportunities
- Adjust the content for better online integration.
- The amount of work, just because we are online does not mean we need more work. It is a lot
- The only thing that will make this better is for classes to go back to being in-person
- Encourage more group discussions
- Lab videos could have more explanation.
- More communication and clearer guidelines for assignments, assessments, etc.
- Given all classes are online and recorded, attendance doesn’t seem like it needs to be necessary
- Less talking, more in class work
- Making lecture hours longer due to occassional technical difficulties.
- Having video cameras on helps with engagement and simulate interpersonal relationships, break out rooms are NOT HELPFUL (most of the time there is little to no participation and takes class time away), example problems are most helpful being that is more difficult to simply dicusss problems with professors and classmates
- More time for work due. With the pandemic I think more students are financially burdened and may have had to pick up part time jobs. I work full time and often need more time to complete work.
- Professors need to write things out and clearly explain the topics. They are getting distracted because they are not writing anything down.
- Move from BB to canvas.
- have more involvement from the students, to insure we are learning and paying attention
- posting all the homework at once so I can write it in my planner at the beginning of the semester versus going and checking in every week. It feels like Im missing something each time
- I think they’re doing a pretty stellar job as is.
- Have all homeworks be due through blackboard, so they are easier to keep track of.
- communicating better with students
- Professors should have more office hours to answer questions for students.
- be more flexible with students struggling with adjusting to online learning, making due dates clearer
- less homework
- More convenient office hours
- N/A
- The format of labs in an online setting do not work well for me. Difficult to communicate and discuss with other students or even the TA
- The structure is nice, but more flexibility for studio work would be nice.
- A couple of my professors take notes in a format that’s great for them but makes it hard for me to copy all the graphics from their slides into my notes.
- N/A
- Letting us know in advance what we need to know before each lecture.
- They’re doing the best they could, unfortunately it’s only ok
- Require professors to have good wifi. I can’t count how many times professors have had terrible audio and can’t video stream. Some are just purely lazy giving out videos for us to watch instead of giving an actual lecture. He just sends us to watch videos.
- have better ways of assigning teams. One professor made us contact classmates on our own. This resulted in me allowing this professor to send an email saying that I need a group and to contact my email. I received a lot of emails from individual students and even assisted others in getting a team. One great thing I experienced was a professor created teams in blackboard, then had everyone sign up to them first come first serve. You could see who else had signed up for that team and had an efficient/professor/official way of contacting them. So a professor could just create the number of teams they see fit for a class and allow students to sign up for it.
- Be better trained on Canvas
- CPTS355 adding an unexpected lab when the class is only 3 credits sucks. Please don’t add labs after the fact!
- not assigning so much work all at once
- I would say there would be nothing to improve on. I believe the online education has been very similar to in person education, which I have been enjoying.
- Be clear in assignment instructions and expectations
- A lot of them are doing super well in giving ample time to ask questions… Saying that, there is nothing they can improve on.
- More TAs to assist students, with online learning it is very hard to get one on one help and TAs are a huge help when it comes to that
- Have better live filiming of their note pad they are writing on. It gets moved and is blurry often.
- Not much
- Make sure to explain what they want in more detail
- Not give unnecessarily crazy long assignments
- More office hours and more in person classes than prerecorded unless the prerecorded lectures are specifically broken up into specific skills such as 2 dimensional arrays etc.
- Some professors have a hard time teaching on the online course space which makes it difficult to learn. For example, using handwritten notes with a blurred camera/ doc-camera.
- I think the professors are doing the best that they can do.
- Learn the technology so that fewer mishaps distract from lecture
- Not online!
- better quality cameras
- Not just upload the info they want to talk about in class and say read this
- I think if during long lectures and classes they have a break so we could just not be on the computer for hours straight
- I don’t know. I would look forward to a time when we can have in-person classes again, but I will be graduated by then.
- Some professors could be more organized with their thoughts and what they expect of us/ want to show us in class. If they have slides make sure not to go as fast and dont jump around quickly makes the topic confusing
- notes
- I am unsure at this moment.
- A more unified platform for students to do homework, take notes, and find resources.
- more office hours
- In-person class.
- Nothing, so far they are doing good.
- Be more easy on the hw load. being home with kids/family isnt easy
- The only thing would to have reminders when assignments are due.
- be more understanding of the effects of online classes
- I would appreciate it if professors wouldn’t go over class time, and if they did not to have mandatory polling or clicker questions after the class has officially ended
- Time to work bugs
- Giving us a plethora of examples and resources for up coming exams
- Make themselves as available as possible.
- Use one software for assignments
- Some teachers need to revise how they organize the class content, their expectation, and the grading criteria
- Everyone should be using either Blackboard or Canvas with Crowdmark to submit assignments.
- I have no suggestions.
- Provide more written study materials.
- Assuming we have more time because we “don’t have to leave to go to class”
- So far, so good.
- I cannot think of anything
- Maybe use a different program for lecturing. My professor uses onenote, menu on the top is a bit distracting. It would be nice to have a fullscreen program, perhaps the windows app version of onenote. Not a huge problem but just a little suggestion.
- n/a
- To be more interactive. The professor should be the last one to leave the zoom meeting (like in person), but lately they’ve been ending the call on the hour and not talking after.
- Change the rules for PA assignments for more flexiable
- Things are ok given the circumstances
- The one thing that comes to my mind is when doing lecture, if the professor is using virtual note taking tools make sure that the pointer or cursor is large enough to see over zoom.
- to stop milking the online classes, ME 216 assigns us video lectures to watch before class and then we go to class and they sumarize the video we just watched and its a waste of our time. in person they would just quickly go through the slides and tell us whats what now they make us go through the slides twice and it wastes twice as much of our time.
- Offering more ways to interact and confirm understanding
- n/a
- more online resources for texts
- N/A
- Some instructors still don’t really know how to manage Zoom or even Canvas/Blackboard.
- Accomodate tech difficulties
- I explained this in the last answer.
- Understanding the student’s perspective in all of this. There is a lot of work that is assigned throughout the classes, and sometimes professors forget that and give us more work that they would normally during in person calsses.
- There really isn’t much they can do to improve it.
- Post the powerpoints/notes they show in class. It’s hard to listen to everything they say and write down all the notes at the same time
- So far, I can’t say the professors can do anymore to improve online school. Engineering is based around conceptual understanding of physics and properties, some of these conceptual topics can be hard to understand through an online experience.
- Go over more example problems
- Professors could provide more polls during lectures to further engage students and help them evaluate where they stand among their peers.
- n/a
- More consistent between classes
- Making sure we get through the material within the allotted Amount of class time
- I wish we had more code demos
- Making class more engaging to force us to unmute during class
- Cant come up with one in my mind now
- I think I am satisfied with my online education experience so far
- Less course work and more understanding
- encourage participation in class
- As for UNIV 497, I would have liked to be taught the correct way of formatting essays. SDC- I would learn more efficiently if we weren’t forced to participate in break out rooms for an hour and a half. If students were allowed to leave class early considering the class work is finished, students would have more time to work on their homework and study rather than staying in breakout rooms with 7 people that have their cameras turned off and don’t want to interact with others. Class would also flow more efficiently if TAs each took on a group, gave feedback, let them go with what they learned for the day and then discussed the group’s progress and weaknesses once they are alone in the zoom meeting. I would like our other TA yo respect the time of students and finish class on time rather than continuing lecture for 10-15 minutes. I would also like this class to improve by changing to a teach to learn format rather than do your homework first THEN I will teach the material and see where the class can improve. This in turn would encourage students to learn instead of making them feel dumb for not understanding the material first, going to class, and then moving on to a different topic.
- Those who haven’t should open up more direct communication methods.
- Be more engaging during class. Ask questions that make us go off mute to answer.
- Some need better equipment and tech
- I have no idea
- I am in a lab class which is extremely difficult online. The experience could be better if the professor or TA went to the lab and actually did the experiment for the students to see rather than just using pictures.

- I either wasn’t available, or didn’t feel that they were important to me at this time. I will probably make more use of them when I start looking for work.
- I am not sure how to make an impression on potential employers
- It’s part of several. I already have a job. My skillset for engineering jobs is still a little short, going by my degree, I already know how to put a resume together, and time is in very short supply.
- Most of these events occur at times when I cannot be present because I’m in class or at work.

Suggestions
Do you have any suggestions on how Voiland College can better serve you this semester?
- Timely messaging and easy access to information (continuously improving)
- I think it’s going really well this semester. Everyone this semester has been so positive and supportive. Thank you!
- Lowering the tuition.
- Provide more information about scholarship opportunities.
- Easier instruction on how to connect with you academic advisor!
- Inform me of events happening sooner than 1 hour prior to the event starting
- None so far
- Possibly more information on the current state of testing and vaccine access.
- Create more social events for VCEA students. Less formal and more interactive with other students in their classes and students who have already taken their classes.
- Clearly post updates as to what will be happening in the fall 2021
- I feel like Voiland College could reach out to students with a bit more information about extracurricular activities that arise throughout the year.
- Be more active on social media.
- More information on how to get internships.
- More online social events
- Sometimes, I am not sure where to find club meeting information
- I really enjoyed the guest lecutures last semester put on by the SDC. I would loved more of those this semester. They really inspired me for the future.
- Well, because I am not on campus, a lot of the services the college offers don’t apply. When I am (hopefully) back in the fall, I will probably check the website to try and find useful information that I desire.
- Club meeting information day of and day before
- no
- More awareness of what it has to offer, such as email or other announcements
- I notice lots of events do not feel very well advertised, specifically club events, I think it would help to have a more cohesive and easily accessible way to look at the clubs via VCEA
- Keep us updated with updates concerning the campus, i.e. what buildings are open and when to study, what president Schultz is working on and his priorities during this time, connecting with more than just Voiland college.
- Provide networking among students since that is something that is more difficult to achieve in a virtual setting.
- More internship opportunities
- not that i can think of
- Offer more tutoring for higher level classes
- My advisor is good but there could be more awareness of the consequences of my class choices.
- More free pizza!
- nothing at this time other then opening labs after hours
- Continual information on intern and job opportunities.
- More in-person learning opportunities
- Keep me informed about the topics I highlighted
- Honestly, ive seen a lot of improvement and I feel like I can succeed much more this semester
- be more interactive with students, have more of the campus spirit we are all wanting and missing
- Try harder to help students find careers, especially in today’s climate
- No. Thank you for still putting on internship/interview sessions
- Provide more services either later or on the weekends.
- Maybe list clubs that are opening and have meeting right now asides from letting us find them ourselces
- Don’t semd me emails about jobs and internships that aren’t relevant to my degree
- only send emails about very important things going on, im getting spammed with emails and I want to sort through them
- I would say have more socials to get students more involved.
- The daily emails have been great, and would like to keep seeing them.
- Switch to in person wherever possible
- A lot would be different in person. We are all just doing the best we can even if it’s not as good as in person. I’m not sure it’s even possible to be as good as in person college when you’re online
- The Voiland College does a great job of informing students and helps provide lots of opportunities.
- Provide a wide range of information on internship opportunities. I feel like all of the internships that the university shares are all in the king county area.
- Release a newsletter periodically that contains all the info you’re trying to disseminate
- In person
- I don’t feel as though design and construction are included as much in the Voiland college
- Some professors insist on spending class time lecturing from the textbook, and I personally find it hard to stay attentive for the whole class period with this style.
- The instructor is not providing lectures and is assigning worksheets that he has not looked at and does not have the answers for. During lecture we are separated into breakout rooms to work on these worksheets as a group, and he goes from room to room to help students. He only makes it through the first couple of rooms before class ends due to the volume of questions he receives so my breakout room has been getting ignored because we are last on the list. This class situation is absolutely unacceptable.
- Not make it so hard to get into contact with someone from the department that helps with jobs
- Again, I am unsure. Voiland College seems like a well organized college.
- In-person classes.
- I think that the college is doing the best they can given the circumstances
- Making more things available in the evenings.
- Make more in class appearances or contact professors to mention services/activities during class times.
- Place less emphasis on filling jobs and more on teaching the subject material.
- I cannot think of anything
- No. You guys are doing great! Thank you so much!
- Yes! The tutoring center was using teams. Teams is far less useful than zoom. I did not enjoy having to figure out how to use a platform while trying to get help. One of the tutors also said to me “I don’t know figure it out” – that’s why I’m there. I would suggest moving the tutoring center back to zoom, and ensuring that tutors are doing everything they can to help us.
- More club events
- Provide incentives that are attainable to motivate other students to join events
- Speaking with professors about accommodations due to the pandemic would be greatly appreciated. It feels as though we are expected to work at 100% capacity, regardless of being in a pandemic and doing college level courses on our computer.
- I think it would be great to know some of the senior students by having interclass meet and greets. I met several of the seniors last year that were able to provide me with tips, but now that we’re learning online, I am unable to do that.
- have students turn on camera during class
- Go Cougs! Just keep it up
- Weekend tutoring sessions
- The only thing I will suggest is to update links from email news and events, some in the past have been out of date.
- cheaper textbook resources
- Formalize CS Tutoring at WSU Vancouver
- Help more with what happens after graduation.
- NA
- Check in with the students! Last semester I had a tough situation with a professor literally not holding lecture and not providing any substitute materials for example recorded videos. After working with Voiland extensively, nothing seriously changed and the situation could easily repeat itself.
Concerns
Do you have any other concerns, questions, or challenges regarding your classes and student services that you would like Voiland College to help answer or address?
- Focusing requires discipline.
- The safety of students when we hopefully return to WSU campus in Pullman and other cities.
- Mainly, I’m concerned about campuses reopening for live, in-person, meetings before it is safe to do so.
- How do I do well in a class when I can’t understand my professor’s accent?
- Well, I am finding my MSE 201 course to be very challenging since the material on the homework wasn’t gone over in class, but I was able to use the textbook to figure it out. However, if the disjoint between lecture and the homework/exams, then that would be a problem.
- I cant wait to see everyone again. Just want it to be safe.
- I think that I enjoy hearing specific things about my classmates and research only when it’s regarding my major.
- Thank you!
- Will we be doing in person labs next semester?
- Why is mechatronics 3 credits when its like 40 hours of work a week
- N/A
- In person classes
- The teacher is not lecturing, assigning work that he has not written and does not have answers for, and blatantly ignoring a portion of the students in the class. His internet connection is very poor which makes it very difficult to try and speak with his during the class time and lab. That’s only if he happens to come into the breakout room, which for the last two classes he has not done for my group. So some of the students are being allotted his time and some are not. I would greatly appreciate it if the school would address this issue because calling this a college course and charging for it is completely laughable.
- How hard is it to get counseling? Make sure its easy to access for everyone
- More help with financial aid and scholarships would be extremely beneficial to somebody like me, as I still have to work during the week to provide for myself.
- Learning online is challenging, so it is more important than ever to try to work together and make eLearning more collaborative.
