Dec. 12, 2023 Voiland College This Week

Mary Rezac announced her resignation as dean of Voiland College, effective Feb. 23, 2024. Provost Chilton named Partha Pande as interim dean, effective Feb. 12, 2024. Pande will serve until a permanent dean is hired. A national search will launch in January 2024.

Luna Magpili received a Fulbright Program award.

Research co-authored by Susmita Bose and Amit Bandyopadhyay revealed that a surgical implant developed by Washington State University researchers was able to kill 87% of the bacteria that cause staph infections in laboratory tests, while remaining strong and compatible with surrounding tissue like current implants. KGW TV reported on their work.

A WSU research team led by Hongtao Dang received a $500,000 U.S. Department of Commerce grant to train civil engineering students in emerging technologies as well as in social intelligence to better meet industry needs in Washington.
