Dear Colleagues, <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am pleased to announce that Tom Jobson has been named interim chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A professor in CEE’s Laboratory for Atmospheric Research, Tom has been with Washington State University since 2005. His research focuses on air quality field studies, indoor air chemistry, and emissions of volatile organic compounds and greenhouse gases from waste management systems. Tom has received national recognition for mentoring and teaching, including the U.S. Department of Energy\u2019s Outstanding Mentor Award and CEE’s Leon Luck Faculty Award for Most Effective Faculty Member.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before joining WSU, Tom worked as a senior research scientist in the Atmospheric Sciences and Global Change Division at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. He also held research positions at the NOAA Aeronomy Laboratory and the University of Colorado\u2019s Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences. His research has supported improved understanding of air pollution processes and their impacts on the environment and public health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tom teaches courses in environmental measurements, environmental engineering, and engineering ethics. He earned his Ph.D. in chemistry from York University and his B.S. in chemistry from the University of Victoria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please join me in congratulating Tom on his appointment, which begins Monday, June 16. I would also like to thank outgoing interim chair Antonio Carraro, who is returning to his faculty role, for his outstanding service over the past nine months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
