A team of computer science students<\/strong> recently earned first\u202fplace<\/a> in the 2026\u202fVICEROY National Cyber Competition called The Guardian Prevails. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Voiland College students<\/strong> were among the 73 recipients of awards at SURCA<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n WSU Insider<\/a> featured a story on the IEEE and ACM student club hackathons.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n A new model developed by Ji Yun Lee<\/strong>\u202fand Abdel-Aziz Sanad<\/strong>\u202f can accurately predict how transmission towers may fail during extreme wind events<\/a>, helping utilities identify vulnerabilities and reduce large-scale power outage risks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Washington State\u202fMagazine:\u202f<\/strong>Summer 2026<\/a> Voiland College stories include: <\/p>\n\n\n\n European regulators recently published a nearly\u202f500-page\u202freport on a massive power outage, attributing it to numerous and interacting factors. The report cited work from researchers in WSU\u2019s School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science<\/a> regarding poorly understood frequency oscillations throughout the power grid that were part of the event. The work cited came from former PhD\u202fstudents, Arash Nezam Sarmadi, Tianying \u201cLily\u201d Wu, Yuan Zhi, <\/strong>and Salman Shiuab<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Jeannine Burke, Jana Doppa, Cassie Chatelain<\/strong>, and Gary Offerdahl<\/strong> recently received recognition from their colleagues<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Nominate a Voiland College peer<\/a> who has gone above and beyond in their work to create a positive culture!
