Voiland College faculty and staff have completed more than 2600 trainings this year, which means a safer environment for all of us. During our recent ABET accreditation visit, the evaluation teams were complementary on the safety standards present within our teaching laboratories. More of us are paying attention, are aware of hazards, and are reporting incidents \u2013 all of which contributes to a more professional safety culture across campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Congratulations, especially, to our faculty and staff at <strong>WSU Vancouver<\/strong> and in the <strong>Voiland School of Chemical Engineering and Bioengineering<\/strong>. With the highest rates of safety training completions in the college, everyone in these two units will be treated to a catered lunch from the Dean\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I want to remind those who haven\u2019t yet taken the online safety trainings to do so as soon as possible. All paid faculty, staff, and time-slip students should take the trainings as outlined below. Please note that moving forward, successful completion of these trainings is going to be a requirement for administrative support, request processing, and future laboratory access.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Required safety training for all Voiland College employees<\/strong> (total time: approximately two hours):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Back Safety and Injury Prevention<\/li><li>Slips, Trips and Falls<\/li><li>Emergency and Fire Safety Preparedness<\/li><li>Portable Fire Extinguisher Safety<\/li><li>Office Ergonomics<\/li><li>University Laboratory Safety \u2013 Working Safely<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/ehs.wsu.edu\/workplace-safety\/cs-asbestos\/asbestos-default\/\">Asbestos Hazard Awareness<\/a> (available on separate EHS website)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>University Laboratory Safety content required for any Voiland College employees who are working in college laboratories.<\/strong> This series of online content replaces the in-person laboratory trainings that have been previously required for laboratory access. A laboratory is defined as a space that contains chemicals other than water or atmospheric air, either liquid or gaseous; has rotating or crushing equipment; has any gases stored under pressure, or other identified hazards. Final determination of which spaces are \u2018laboratories\u2019 is at the discretion of the VCEA Safety committee. Select top button to the right and log into your online learning account using your network ID. Find the required courses listed on the left, under WSU Safety Courses>WSU Online Safety Courses. If you have questions, please reach out to your unit\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/vcea.wsu.edu\/foss\/safety-committees\/\">safety committee representative<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lastly, I invite all of you to attend the upcoming <a href=\"https:\/\/events.wsu.edu\/event\/safety-health-and-security-fair-2\/\">WSU Health &amp; Safety Fair<\/a> on Tuesday, Oct.22.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Safety Fair highlights the university\u2019s commitment to ensuring the health, safety and security of faculty, staff and students.
