Meet our Ambassadors!

Sarah Carlson

Expected Graduation: Fall 2025

Major: Master’s in Mechanical Engineering

Favorite Class:

Manufacturing Engineering is one of my favorite classes here at WSU. This class is very hands-on and engaging in its content. The lab allowed students to work with different machines and techniques.

Why WSU?

I decided to attend WSU because I was drawn to the passion this school has. WSU has so many great resources for its students, and you can tell the faculty wants you to succeed and learn.

Gary Fishel

Expected Graduation: May 2024

Major: Electrical Engineering

Extracurricular Involvement:

KZUU 90.7 FM

Why WSU?

After completing over two years toward my degree at another college, I decided to transfer to branch out into a new chapter of life, which allowed me to pursue a degree I was passionate about. The rewards and adventures that have arrived as a result of this choice have been incredibly gratifying, and it was the first of several steps that have instilled in me the belief that I can go anywhere and do anything with my life as I choose, particularly now that I am on the doorsteps of graduating with my degree in electrical engineering, once again preparing for another grand adventure of life.

Daniel Gapper

Expected Graduation: May 2025

Major: Computer Science

Extracurricular Involvement:

VCEA Student Ambassador

Beta Theta Pi Fraternity

Association for Computing Machinery

Favorite Class:

My favorite class to date has to be ME 116. This class was an introduction to computer aided design and was heavily project based. We had freedom to work on our own creations and share them with our peers. I came into class with no experience working with CAD and left an array of skills and experience that I can carry with me from now on.

Why WSU?

The first thing that stood out was the tight knit and welcoming community. Every current student and alumni that I spoke with had nothing but great things to say and it was easy to tell they truly loved their time and experiences here. Since attending WSU, I have watched all that they told me come true and loved every second of it.

Kacey Gavin

Expected Graduation: May 2025

Major: Mechanical Engineering

Extracurricular Involvement:

SEL Processing Engineering Intern

VCEA Student Ambassador

Mentor for FRC Team 4061

P.A.R.T. SciBorgs

Boeing Scholar

Founder of DisCougs

Why WSU?

I chose WSU because of the hands-on opportunities available to its undergraduate students. When I was touring colleges in the spring of my junior year of high school, my family and I were aimlessly walking through the engineering buildings on the WSU Pullman campus. I didn’t know where we were at the time, but when we reached the basement of Dana Hall, a student took us on a tour of some of the maker and club spaces. I saw college students working on robotics which is the whole reason I decided to go into engineering in the first place. I didn’t know WSU had any form of robotics until then. We re-toured WSU in December of 2019 and I made my university decision then.

Emma Johnson

Emma Johnson.Expected Graduation: May 2025

Major: Computer Science B.S.

Extracurricular Involvement:

Society of Women Engineers (SWE)

Why WSU?

I decided to attend WSU for two main reasons: the community and its affordability. Although I was skeptical at first, the phrase Cougs help Cougs is real in Pullman. The community is so friendly, helpful, and wants you to succeed. WSU wants you in its community; WSU made me feel like I belonged through handwritten letters, enthusiasm in their acceptance, and support in prepping for College.

Why WSU?

Hands down, the SDC (School of Architecture and Design). In high school, I toured the studio spaces and absolutely fell in love. I knew I needed a program that would challenge me and set me up for post-graduation success, and that’s what the programs here do. Not only that, but you get to do it in such a supportive community.

Ava Schade

Expected Graduation: May 2024

Major: Architecture

Minor: Fine Arts

Extracurricular Involvement:

STAGE

VCEA Student Ambassador

Favorite Class:

I’d have to go with SDC 350 with Gracjan Kraszewski. I absolutely loved his approach to teaching and learning, and the class atmosphere is unlike any other class I have taken. I’m a huge fan of art and design history, and how we apply our knowledge in this class forces me to think differently and see things from a new perspective. This is my second time having him as a professor and I hope I can take another one of his classes in the future.

Why WSU?

From my very first step on campus, I felt at home. The overwhelming feeling that I belong really stuck with me and I still feel that today.

Seger Smith

Expected Graduation: Fall 2024

Why WSU?

I decided to come to WSU for connections! The university has a global outreach that can be a great help when attempting to find your first internship or research opportunity. I have always wanted to work in private consulting, so WSU is perfect as it affords endless opportunities to network and discover your first step into the architecture and engineering industries.

Why WSU?

I chose to attend WSU primarily because of the university’s strong reputation in my field of study, which is computer science. WSU’s computer science program is renowned for its quality curriculum and faculty, and that was a major draw for me. Additionally, the campus environment, the availability of research opportunities, and the affordability of tuition were all factors that influenced my decision.

Major: Civil Engineering

Minor: Mathematics

Extracurricular Involvement:

Favorite Class:

My favorite class at WSU so far has been my computer applications class with Karl Olsen. I loved learning the different applications in his class and finishing each unit feeling as if I could use the application in a workplace setting. Before taking computer applications, I didn’t think I would be giddy over creating a project-specific map or Excel spreadsheet. However, I was so excited about what I was able to create and the skills I learned in that class.
