Internships are important work experiences to get while completing your education- you don’t have to wait until your junior or senior year to look for an internship. In fact, the earlier you start seeking out internship opportunities, the better prepared you’ll be to enter the workforce after graduation.  April is National Internship Awareness Month, so we’re kicking our internship assistance into high gear to help you land your next internship opportunity.

There are tons of internship opportunities, internship resources, and internship search webpages out there- so many that it can easily become overwhelming. Take a deep breath and relax- we’ve outlined some of our recommendations below for where to find an internship. Plus, the VCEA Internships & Career Services office is with you every step of the way- from searching for interesting opportunities to crafting a resume, writing your cover letter to preparing for an interview, we’re here to help!

Handshake

Handshake is a powerful place to begin your internship search because it’s exclusively available to students at colleges and universities. Unlike major job search pages like Indeed or Monster that are open to everyone, Handshake’s postings are only available to students like you. That means the companies that post their internship opportunities in Handshake are looking for students with similar qualifications to you. Check out Handshake’s filters to find internship opportunities tailored to your search criteria (such as location, part-time or full-time, major, industry & more)!

Voiland Career Shift

Career Shift subscription is paid for by the Internships & Career Services office for VCEA students, meaning all you need is your WSU email address to access the internship and job opportunities, company information, and employee contact information on the site. Learn more about companies that interest you, find out if any WSU alumni work at the company (hello informational interview opportunities!) and search for internship postings. You can save postings you like to the folders in your dashboard for easy finding, as well as bookmark companies you like.  You will have access to your dashboard folders forever!

Industry-Specific Links

If you already know what industry you want to work in, we’ve compiled a list of internship and job search sites broken down by industry. While this is by no means an exhaustive list, it can be useful for starting out your search! Check out opportunities in Tech, CEE, EECS, Power, ME & MSE, and ChemE & BioEngr on the VCEA Internships & Career Services Resource page.
