Peer mentors are trained and supported to help students navigate the academic, social, and personal challenges that often come with the first semesters of a VCEA degree program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through the program, first\u2011year students build connections with classmates, develop collaborative relationships, and gain insight, support, and resources from someone who has already \u201cbeen there\u201d in a Voiland program. Peer mentors, in turn, strengthen their professional networks while developing leadership, communication, and mentoring skills that support their future careers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Peer Mentoring Program is designed to enhance the student experience, foster meaningful connections, build professional and social networks, and promote a strong sense of belonging within the VCEA community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wsu-spacing-top--none\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How does it work?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students are matched with a peer mentor based on shared academic interests, goals, and preferences. When possible, matches may also consider life experiences or background to support meaningful connections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To get started, students register and complete a brief online survey that helps assess interests, experiences, and mentoring preferences. Once matched, mentors and mentees connect regularly using communication methods that fit their schedules, such as messages, video calls, or in\u2011person meet\u2011ups.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wsu-row wsu-spacing-after--xxmedium wsu-row--halves\" >\r\n    \n<div class=\"wsu-column\"  style=\"\">\r\n\t\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading wsu-heading--style-marked wsu-heading--mark-color-midnight\">Mentors can expect:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>A flexible time commitment of 1\u20134 hours per week, based on your availability. Mentors connect with a small group of mentees through weekly, bi\u2011weekly, or monthly check\u2011ins that fit their schedules.
