Ever since I walked onto campus for orientation, people were genuine and passionate about their goals. It&#8217;s an inspiration to be with so many positive people, and know their great attitudes have made WSU feel like a new home. I chose civil engineering because I wanted to make a direct impact on people&#8217;s lives. There are communities around the world who struggle gaining access to basic infrastructure due to lack of professional expertise and funding. We as engineers have the ability to help those in need, and I wanted to take action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading  wsu-font-size--large\">Please share how scholarships or financial aid has impacted you as a student.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The funding given to students allows us to learn, innovate and give back to others. For example, I was part of a six-month project in Altamira, Bolivia, designing, constructing and implementing a water distribution system for their community. I would not have been able to work on such a life-changing experience if it wasn&#8217;t for the support of donors and supporters. Their support helps me pay it forward to those who need it most, and I could not be more grateful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading  wsu-font-size--large\">What clubs are you involved in on campus?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I spent most of my time at WSU developing <a href=\"https:\/\/wsu.presence.io\/organization\/engineers-in-action\">Engineers in Action<\/a>, a club that mixes engineering and volunteering to serve communities locally and globally. This was best demonstrated during our Summer 2026 project in Altamira, Bolivia. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The community members never had clean running water, instead collecting water from an unfiltered source more than a mile away. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over eight weeks, three students from WSU and seven students from across the United States and Canada worked to construct a filtered water distribution system for over 250 beneficiaries. Not only has it made me a better engineer, it&#8217;s made me a better person. Especially at WSU, where we have people launching aircraft, shooting rockets into space, fighting with battle bots, writing code for video games, creating energy storage systems, opportunity is endless. I learned to take advantage of these openings when they presented themselves. I never regretted asking questions about someone&#8217;s passion project and describing my own when given the chance. The best part is if you have an idea or project that isn&#8217;t at WSU, you can make it happen with enough work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading wsu-font-size--large\">What do you want to do with your degree after you graduate?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>After graduating, I plan on working in the water industry while supporting the global humanitarian effort for clean water. I will continue working with the NGO, Engineers in Action, as an ambassador and mentor. The expertise gained through WSU has been second to none.
