What made you decide to attend WSU?
I chose WSU because they offered me direct admission into my desired major, which was very important to me. I decided on bioengineering because it combines my two strongest interests in healthcare and engineering, allowing me to pursue both passions in a meaningful way.
What has been your favorite class or program that you have been involved with at WSU?
My favorite class at WSU has been ENGR 120, a hands-on course that introduces students to many different fields of engineering at an introductory level. I especially enjoyed working on our prosthetic hand project. Although it was fairly challenging, it was also exciting and rewarding, and it inspired me to pursue my own personal projects outside of class.
What clubs are you involved in on campus?
I am involved in Engineers in Action and the Indian Student Association. Both of these clubs require significant fundraising efforts, which has helped me build valuable leadership and organizational skills. Through planning events, coordinating with others, and raising funds, I have learned how to communicate effectively and manage responsibilities. These experiences will be very helpful in the future if I pursue projects or research that require securing funding and community support.
Have you participated in any research projects related to your field of study?
I have explored different research labs to find one that best fits my interests, and I recently joined a lab focused on tissue engineering. I am excited to gain hands-on experience in this area and to learn more about how engineering principles can be applied to solving challenges in healthcare. My goal is to build a strong foundation in tissue engineering that will support both my academic growth and my future career in the medical field.
Have you participated in any internships related to your field of study?
I worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in a long term care facility over the summer, gaining clinical experience as a pre-med.
Why would you recommend attending Washington State University?
I would highly recommend attending WSU, especially for engineering, because the Wazzu community is one of the most welcoming I have experienced. The faculty and professors genuinely want to see you succeed, and the students are always supportive. Everyone is willing to help in any way possible, which has made my experience here both encouraging and rewarding.
What have you learned during your time at WSU that will help you most in your future?
During my time at WSU, I have developed stronger social skills, time management, and work ethic. These qualities have been shaped through balancing classes, research, and campus involvement, and I know they will help me in my future career. They are essential skills for any doctor, and WSU has given me the environment to practice and strengthen them every day.
What advice do you have for fellow or prospective students?
There are many opportunities on campus, such as clubs, TA positions, and research labs, and they can make your time at WSU both enjoyable and meaningful. My advice is to start exploring these opportunities as soon as the semester begins, since getting involved early allows you to build connections, gain valuable experience, and develop skills that will help you succeed in your major. Do not be afraid to reach out to professors, teaching assistants, or even other students, because most people are eager to help and guide you. By staying proactive and engaged, you will find that WSU offers countless ways to learn, grow, and prepare for your future.
What do you want to do with your degree after you graduate?
I plan on going to med school to hopefully become a transplant surgeon!
