Student Maker Spaces

Fabrication Labs

The Fabrication Labs offer 3500 square feet of maker space, conveniently located next to Carpenter Hall. Digital fabrication services are provided by trained shop technicians. The Model Shop is also equipped with model-scale analog machines, for modeling and prototyping work in wood, wood-composite, and plastics. Hot-wire foam cutters are available for short-term checkout. Students are encouraged to make reservations for laser cutting through the online system. Access requires prior completion of safety orientation. Frank Innovation Zone (FIZ)

The FIZ is located on the ground floor of Dana Hall and is available to WSU students, faculty, and staff. This innovative space offers students many resources that help bring their ideas to life. These resources include fabrication tools, testing and measuring equipment, storage areas, meeting spaces, and supervised maker space with supportive technology. The FIZ also includes a service center where students can purchase a variety of different hardware using Cougar Cash. This area is a catalyst for student engagement and serves as a great starting point for any project. Visit the Frank Innovation Zone website for more information.

Voiland College Shops

The Voiland College Shops are located on the ground floor of Dana Hall. The Shops work with faculty members, graduate students, and student clubs to fabricate the parts, tools, and machines needed for their research and competitions. Shop personnel are skilled at conceptualizing, industrial design, fabrication, sculpting, artistry, and cost management which facilitate solutions many other providers cannot match.
