What makes Washington State University’s Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture stand out from the crowd for those looking to get a degree?

We ask civil engineering major Erin Waligorski for her thoughts on what makes WSU such a special place.

What made you decide to attend WSU?

I grew up attending WSU football games and fell in love with the campus, so when it came time to choose a college, WSU was my top choice! I chose civil engineering because I am fascinated by designing infrastructure that impacts so many parts of everyday life.

What advice do you have for fellow or prospective students?

Get involved and put forth effort—there are numerous opportunities at WSU. Joining clubs is an excellent way to connect with other students and find your niche. Additionally, if you experience challenges in a course, there are many resources available to assist you. Don’t hesitate to reach out and take full advantage of the support offered.

What has been your favorite class or program that you have been involved in at WSU?

My favorite class at WSU was Surveying. It was interesting to get outside and learn more about how data points are taken and integrated into the design process for a project.

What have you learned during your time at WSU, that will help you most in the future?

The Computer Applications course has been highly beneficial in developing my skills with design programs, which are essential in the field. Additionally, the connections I have made at WSU will be valuable as I progress in my career.

Have you participated in any internships related to your field of study?

I have interned for two summers at RH2 Engineering in East Wenatchee, Washington. It was exciting to learn about all the different facets of a project!
