What has been your favorite class or program that you have been involved with at WSU?

The construction management program is special to me because of the connections you make. We are smaller cohorts of 50 students, and we get very close with one another. Construction as an industry is one that is huge and small at the same time. I am super excited to see my friends reunite at the next conference after college, seeing where their continuous success brings them and reminisce out time spent at WSU.

Have you participated in any research projects related to your field of study?

I had the opportunity at WSU to learn about new technologies being utilized in the construction industry though the ACE training program. We were able to develop a short research proposal of our interest, mine focused on using Virtual Reality and Psychophysiological testing to determine positive mental health impacts of design, while simultaneously contributing to positive environmental impacts. This introduced me to writing and reading research articles and has led me toward wanting to peruse undergraduate research during my time at WSU.

Have you participated in any internships related to your field of study?

I am currently interning with Lease Crutcher Lewis in Pullman over the Summer. I am a Project Engineer working on the Schweitzer Engineering Hall, and I am so proud to be a part of this project as a Coug working on a WSU Construction Project. Applying what I already know about quality control and utilizing tools introduced from my classes, adapting to working in the field and learning from my team as the project progresses.

How have scholarships or financial aid impacted you as a student?

It allows me to focus on my education, involving myself in my community, and taking on new learning opportunities that will apply to my field of interest. I get to pursue research, student competitions, and involve myself with industry professionals. From guest lectures, interviews and info sessions, as well as jobsite tours. It also recognizes the hard work I have devoted at Washington State University, and it pushes me to strive towards continuously improving and learning.

Why would you recommend attending Washington State University?

The relationships I have made through choosing to attend WSU have changed me into who I am today. I have made lifelong friends, I have asked for guidance from my peers about where I envision myself in the future and overall expanded the way I look at the world. Everyone is from a different background and has totally different perspectives, so there is always something to learn. Without a doubt, I chose to attend WSU because of the people. The students are smart, the alumni are generous, and the faculty are always trying to get you involved and are there to help.

What have you learned during your time at WSU, that will help you most in your future?

The time you dedicate into something, will without a doubt pay-off. The connections and lessons learnt along my academic journey are what have shaped me. Exploring the opportunities that presented themselves, and especially the ones that interested me took hard work, but I am fulfilled because of it. In the future I want to continue to challenge myself and grow, because I know you will only reap what you sow.

What advice do you have for fellow or prospective students?

Please get engaged in this wonderful community and let yourself be known. There are plenty of Cougs with the same interest who will find their way into your lives and make a positive impact, you just have to be yourself and expand your network. Wazzu has plenty to offer, and if you are looking for something to do, or have an idea that piques your interest. WSU can help that thought become something tangible, supporting you fully. In the end, it is all about who knows you. Ask questions, get involved, and challenge yourself!

What do you want to do with your degree after you graduate?

I want to continue to work on construction projects that positively impact the world around me, utilizing new technologies and blending quality building practices and methods. I envision myself as a superintendent working on projects such as education, healthcare and affordable housing. Surrounded by a team and leading them toward procuring successful and fulfilling projects that have positive long-term impacts.

Is there anything else you’d like to mention about your experience at WSU?

Once a Coug, always a Coug!
