Are you graduating this spring? Congratulations! But before you pack up your college stuff and hang your diploma on the wall- let’s make sure you’re set up for success. If you don’t have a post-graduation plan yet, now’s the time to start!

Update Time!

Take some time to update your resume, LinkedIn, and social media profiles. Add any new work experience, skills, and projects you completed this semester to your resume/LinkedIn and remove any content that is no longer relevant or recent. Make sure your graduation date is up-to-date on your resume as well- you want employers to know you’re seeking full time employment.

Brush up your online presence on social media by removing any content that might not paint you in the best light- remember that employers may (and often do!) look at your social media before extending job offers or making hires. This includes Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram among others. It’s also a good idea to Google yourself so you’re aware of what comes up. Check out additional tips from Business Insider for how to clean up your online act.

Job & Internship Postings

Speaking of social media, the VCEA Internships & Career Services Office (@WSUVoilandPPEL on Twitter and @VCEAInternships on Facebook) posts daily internship and entry-level job postings from companies around the Northwest and beyond. This can be a great starting point in your job search, as our office posts opportunities for over 650 companies we work with each semester

Additionally, make sure to check out Handshake, Voiland.CareerShift, and the VCEA Internships & Career Services website for a full list of job search engines, internship search strategies, and opportunities broken down by major, company, industry, etc.

Placement Survey

Be on the lookout for an email in your WSU email with the Job Placement Survey later this semester. Fill out the Job Placement Survey with your post-graduation plans- will you be employed full time? Going to grad school? Starting your own business? Or still figuring it all out? As you may know, President Schulz set a goal for WSU to become one of the nation’s top 25 public research universities by 2030—more commonly referred to as the Drive to 25 or D25—and is the University’s highest strategic priority.  Part of D25 is to gather job placement data on our graduates.

Once again, congratulations on this incredible accomplishment, we wish you all the best in your adventures post-graduation. Please remember, we are here to help you (even after graduation) and we look forward to meeting with you soon
