Getting Underway

Dear Colleagues,

Welcome back to the start of another semester! We’re excited to welcome our new and returning students and faculty to campus—It’s going to be a great year.

We’re happy to see the continuing growth of our college as we welcome a total of 18 new faculty to our programs. Our new colleagues are bright and energetic, expanding our programs in areas such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, computer science, power engineering and renewable energy, sustainable design, and advanced materials and manufacturing. I am excited for the new energy they provide and look forward to sharing much more news about their work in the years to come.

Meanwhile, our current faculty members are continuing to find success this year. Narasimha Boddeti, Berry Family Assistant Professor in the School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering, joins Dominic Scalise as our second National Science Foundation Career Award winner this year. These two junior faculty members join a list of several faculty members in the college who have received these prestigious awards, demonstrating a compelling long-term vision for their research programs.

As campus comes alive, we’ll soon enjoy our annual ice cream social and welcoming town hall where we will enjoy treats, sunshine, laughs, and a chance to meet new friends and colleagues. While social events, student clubs, and extracurriculars may look like fun and games, they’re the important glue that bring our students, faculty, and staff together. They allow our students to develop real-world and hands-on skills while bringing faculty together for inspiration and collaboration. These are the experiences that our alumni remember, that shape lives, and lead to future success, whether as Fulbright or Goldwater awards or National Science Foundation or NASA fellowships.

Thanks so much for your continuing support of Voiland College, and, as always, Go Cougs!
