National Academy of Engineering

Election to the NAE is the most prestigious honor in engineering. Founded in 1964, the organization serves with the National Academy of Sciences as an advisory board for the federal government through the National Research Council. Out of approximately 10 million engineers in the United States, only about 2,000 are members of the NAE. The group is composed of engineers from both academia and industry.

Anjan BoseDistinguished Professor of Power Engineering, School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science
John P. HirthProfessor Emeritus, School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering

Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE)

This is the highest honor given by the federal government to scientists and engineers beginning their careers.

Susmita BoseSchool of Mechanical and Materials Engineering, 2002.
The PECASE citation commended Bose for her “innovative and multidisciplinary research on bioactive bone implants.”

Presidential Faculty Fellow Award

Shira BroschatSchool of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, 1992

Regents Professors

The rank of regents professor can be held by no more than 30 Washington State University faculty members at any one time. Promotion to regents professor requires service to the university for at least 7 years and attainment of the highest level of professional achievement.
