A Time for Thanks

Dear Colleagues,

As we take time to give thanks at this time of year, I want to express my gratitude for many successes and a great year in the Voiland College. We are thankful for our hardworking students, faculty, and staff and for the strong support of our alumni and donors.

This year, we’re especially grateful for our generous alumni and donors who are making Schweitzer Engineering Hall possible. The new building will be a warm and welcoming home for generations of students, supporting their success and helping them truly feel a part of our programs. As those future students soon enjoy gathering spaces, collaborative classrooms, new club spaces, and coordinated programs, I hope they feel the support of so many of you, our alumni and donors, who today are helping to make the new building a reality. This project is being made possible by private and public partnership, and I want to say thanks to so many of you who continue to provide this important support for our facilities.

Our Voiland College faculty and staff are also affecting lives every day. Our researchers are coming up with real-world energy and climate-friendly solutions to our energy challenges or are developing new ways to find cancer clues. Our faculty members are vibrant and energetic with grant expenditures that reached a record $39 million last year. I’m looking forward to the year ahead as we undergo searches for a dozen new faculty members for next fall.

As we move forward after the years of pandemic challenges, I’m also happy to report that our freshmen enrollment numbers saw a significant increase this fall, and we now have more than 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in our programs. We’re pleased to celebrate our many student successes, such as Harsh Sharma who received a best paper award and Naseeha Cardwell’s ARCS leadership award.

Your support is more important than ever, and we are filled with gratitude for all the ways you help us throughout the year. Please enjoy this season of Thanksgiving with family and friends, and as always, Go Cougs!
