Dear Colleagues,
As the new year and semester picks up speed, it’s worth pausing to recognize the impact of the Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture. We truly make a difference in the lives of our students and in the impact of our work around the state and nation.
Our students are making a difference in their communities – whether designing a sustainable food hub or building a project for the local disability center. They’re collaborating in hackathons and earning top rankings in competitions. They are getting valuable hands-on experience in communications, project management, and leadership that they will carry into the workplace when they graduate. These experiences outside our classes are why our students are known for being work ready when they graduate.
Our faculty also are taking leadership roles in addressing our most important societal challenges in energy resilience, health, cybersecurity, agriculture, and the environment. Faculty members and students in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science recently presented at two of the most important conferences in artificial intelligence research. WSU was recently designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence in cybersecurity by the National Security Agency, providing new opportunities in cybersecurity research and training. Our researchers also received historic federal support for their important work in high-quality semiconductor crystal production and to advance precision aquaculture.
This work is made possible through the support of our alumni and donors, whose generosity is transforming student success through scholarships, research, and facilities like Schweitzer Engineering Hall, our new student success building opening this fall. This flagship space will bring student services together under one roof and serve as a lasting investment in our students and their futures.
Thank you for being part of this impact, and as always, Go Cougs!
