Welcome back, Cougs!
Welcome back to another exciting year at the Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture (VCEA). This fall marks a particularly special moment in our college’s history. We are preparing to celebrate the grand opening of Schweitzer Engineering Hall on September 18, a facility that embodies our commitment to student success, innovation, and collaboration. Additionally, we are proud to recognize four VCEA-affiliated faculty members who were recently elected to the Washington State Academy of Sciences, one of the highest honors for scientists and engineers in our state. Together, these milestones reflect the excellence, ambition, and impact that define our college community.
This summer showcased the incredible work happening across VCEA. From researchers developing new AI frameworks that help robotic systems make safer decisions to partnerships that deliver real-world manufacturing solutions for Washington companies, our faculty and students continue to make a difference across the state and beyond.
The college continues to award full ride scholarships to promising engineering students. For the upcoming fall, we awarded four additional scholarships, two for incoming first-year students and two to transfer students. As we continue with the Distinguished Dean’s Scholarship program, we are excited to watch our scholars, along with all of our students in the college, grow and flourish on their academic journey.
We have many exciting events coming up this fall, including the Lanning Lecture on September 25 and the Ensor Lecture on October 6. Both of these prestigious lectures are made possible by endowments set up by alumni who believe in the power of higher education and the importance of enrichment opportunities beyond the classroom.
Together, we’ll continue advancing knowledge, solving complex challenges, and preparing the next generation of engineers, architects, designers, and computer scientists. I look forward to all that we will accomplish in the year ahead.
