Bharat Shah has had a successful 35-year career at Microsoft, serving as Corporate Vice President until October, 2023. He helped boot strap Cloud Security as a business at Microsoft, and served as the CISO of Azure. 

Bharat has incubated and scaled several businesses at Microsoft. He led the creation of Microsoft’s business identity systems, led the first incarnation of O365, and was an engineering leader for cloud infrastructure Azure. He also built one of the largest and earliest cloud services, Windows Update and scaled it to keep 800M consumer and small business PCs up to date and secure. 

With his experience in cloud and having witnessed firsthand digital transformation, he is passionate about continuing to contribute to the software-led reimagination of every business in the world. 

Bharat was born near Mumbai, India, and got his undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, before coming to the U.S. Bharat firmly believes education is his “privilege.” His parents’ support for his education was what differentiated him from his classmates through high school. His personal upbringing fuels his passion to “pass it on” to those less privileged. 

Bharat serves as an Industry advisor to a large private equity firm and advises startups in cybersecurity, cloud infrastructure, and artificial intelligence.
