Education:

  • B.S. Civil Engineering, Washington State University, 1979

Jim graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering (structural emphasis) from Washington State University in 1979. Shortly thereafter, he started in the consulting engineering industry in the Seattle area, providing design of industrial structures for a brief period, then moving into architectural structures where his emphasis would remain.

His work on a prolific number and variety of architectural structures spans multiple markets in the private and public sectors. He has worked with the best and brightest architects, developers, owners, and contractors in the State of Washington. Known throughout the industry for his project management skills, creative solutions, and dedication to high quality design, Jim is sought after when a holistic approach is required for challenging, complex projects.

Jim founded Coughlin Porter Lundeen in 1994 with Steve Porter, another WSU alum, and Terry Lundeen. Jim was able to successfully instill his commitment to quality and service throughout the culture of Coughlin Porter Lundeen. The firm has become a regional leader in the structural design of buildings and the sites they occupy. Clients include leading public institutions and nationally-recognized corporations.
