Executive Leadership Board:
Mahmood Ghassemi

Mahmood Ghassemi.

Chief Executive Officer, Sequoyah Electric.

Education:

  • B.S. Electrical Engineering, Washington State University, 1982

After graduating from WSU, Ghassemi started his career in the electrical engineering industry. With a passion for construction, over the years he has shifted his focus toward preconstruction and electrical construction to better meet and exceed the needs of Sequoyah’s customers on complex projects. He has been involved in many major design-build projects ranging from commercial high-rise buildings to data centers, healthcare, bio-tech and higher education. One of his early career accomplishments includes the electrical design of the 62-story Seattle Municipal Building which was completed in 1990. Combining his knowledge of engineering and construction, he has transformed Sequoyah into a regional leader in the electrical design-build industry. He has thrived in various management positions over the years, building up to his current role as Chief Executive Officer.

His other passion is supporting organizations and institutions that are dear to his heart and have an impact on the community. He is a longtime supporter of Seattle Children’s Autism Center as well as Swedish Hospital’s Rivkin Center in support of ovarian cancer research and awareness among many other non-profit organizations. Ghassemi considers WSU as one of the major catalysts for his professional success. He has always felt that he (as well as other alumni) has an obligation to give back to their beloved university. Since 2015, Mahmood has served on WSU’s Construction Management Advisory Board providing an industry perspective while working with faculty to prepare students for professional success. In support of WSU, Mahmood and Sequoyah have created endowments for the Construction Management department and Cougar Athletics. Mahmood also generously invests in student-athlete scholarships. With his wife, Schelaine, they created a scholarship in the Elson S. Floyd School of Medicine to honor the late President Floyd who inspired Mahmood to invest his time and talent in WSU.

A strong believer in collaboration and teamwork, Ghassemi is honored to be a member of the Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture’s Executive Leadership Board.
