Q: Why would you recommend Washington State University to someone looking to go to college?
A: It is a great community. People are always willing to help you out. On my first day of classes, I was completely loss and couldn’t find my classroom; a complete stranger guided me, despite having to go to their own class. I met many unique individuals and learned many things.

Q: What advice do you have for fellow or prospective students looking to study engineering?
A: You have to persevere; this is the factor that most determines success in anything. For success in my major, it is important to collaborate with others and get help. During COVID-19, it’s essential to stay healthy, mentally and physically, and be organized.

Q: Why did you choose to be a chemical engineering major, and what have you learned?
A: I chose chemical engineering because I saw it as a way to work on some of the world’s biggest challenges; in my major, we’re taught to think and problem solve. I have learned how to analyze and design processes; I’ve gotten to understand the math and science behind how things are made. What will aid me most is the knowledge to solve problems and think my way through any problem. There are endless applications for what I have learned from my coursework, in any industry.

Q: What has been your favorite class, club, or program that you’ve been involved with at WSU?
A: My favorite club at WSU has been American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AICHE). Through this club I have attended several conferences and learned about career development. I have participated in the Reaction Car and Jeopardy teams at PNW regional conferences. This year our team received first place in the Jeopardy contest.
