Researchers led by Birgitte Ahring have developed a scalable method that utilizes high-pressure pretreatment and a novel bacterial strain to convert sewage sludge into 99% pure renewable natural gas. The Spokesman Review and KREM TV aired stories on the research.

Nandita Biswas with Roland Chen and Arda Gozen received a Samuel H. and Patricia W. Smith Teaching and Learning Grant from the Vice Provost for Academic Engagement and Student Achievement in the amount of $5,000.00 the proposal entitled, “Hands on Design for Manufacturing Practice in a Mechanical Engineering Sophomore Design Class.”

Opportunities
AI Workship May 11-13
The VCEA 3-day faculty workshop focused on teaching, research and the effective use of AI in academic settings. This workshop is designed to provide practical strategies and tools that you can immediately apply to strengthen your teaching, enhance your research productivity, and integrate AI into your work.
Location: WSU Pullman campus (Zoom option available)
- May 11: Teaching
- May 12: Research
- May 13: AI Foundations & GenAI for Research and Daily Tasks
Faculty and staff may register for individual days (morning, afternoon, or full day) or attend all three days. However, you are strongly encouraged to attend the full workshop to gain the greatest benefit.
Each day will include interactive sessions, hands-on components, and opportunities to engage with colleagues across VCEA. We request that you complete your registration by April 29 to assist in space planning and catering.
