The Junior Faculty Research Award recognizes the research achievements of one outstanding Assistant Professor or Associate Professor. The award will be given for outstanding research consisting of foundational or innovated achievements in the field of study pertinent to the nominated faculty member.
Award/Honor
One VCEA faculty will receive a certificate and an honorarium.
Note
The receipt of this award does not guarantee that tenure will be granted to the awardee, as the standard review procedures for tenure and promotion are different than those that qualify an individual to receive this award.
Nomination Guidelines
- The objective is to select one outstanding tenured, tenure-track or research career-track (Assistant or Associate Professor) in VCEA who has received their PhD within the past 10 years and demonstrated or perceived impact on the relevant discipline. This includes all VCEA tenure-track and career-track faculty, irrespective of campus.
- The nominee’s research must have been performed primarily (but not necessarily exclusively) while employed as a faculty member in VCEA.
- Preference is given to innovative research as opposed to quantity of production.
- Previous winners of this award are not eligible.
- The required elements of the nomination package are:
- One nomination letter that includes a brief introductory statement (fewer than 250 words), followed by a synopsis of the significant research contributions of the nominee.
- A full curriculum vitae of the nominee with a full list of publications and academic output.
- At least one, but no more than three letters of reference. If more than two letters are included, the third must be external.
Selection Criteria
- Research Quality: excellence in discovery, innovation, and creative ways to generate new concepts, methodologies, and understandings. Shows clear significance, innovation, and evidence of broader impact.
- Professional Ethics: scientific integrity, transparency, and professional ethics.
- Mentoring: commitment and excellence in supporting faculty achievements.
- Achievements: quality of journals in which the nominee has published, and awards received.

All nominations should be submitted in Qualtrics on or before Friday, March 13, 2026, by 5:00 pm (PST).
