A $500,000 grant from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission will help Washington State University scientists, including John McCloy, study various aspects of safely storing and disposing of next generation nuclear fuels.

Air filter research by Katie Zhong, Shengnan Lin, Ming Luo, and Xuewei Fu could lead to better air purifiers, particularly in regions of the world that suffer from very poor air quality. Zhong was interviewed about the research by KIRO TV.

A WSU construction management student team earned first place in the recent Associated Schools of Construction student competition, the largest construction management competition in the U.S.

The Daily Evergreen interviewed Hakan Gurocak about Professional and Corporate Education’s discounts for their non-credit courses.

Susmita Bose was a panelist for a Women in Biomaterials event sponsored by the Bioceramics Division of the American Ceramic Society. The panelists discussed their career choices and challenges in achieving their scientific success.

Association for Faculty Women Graduate Student Awards – Nominations Due March 1

The Association for Faculty Women’s Outstanding Graduate Student Awards recognize the academic achievements and professional potential of WSU’s graduate students. Nominees need no affiliation with the AFW to be nominated. Students of all gender identities may be nominated. Nominations are due March 1.

President’s Awards for Leadership – Nominations Due March 3

Help recognize those who have shown outstanding leadership and service to the WSU community this academic year. Nomination categories include: Students / Faculty & Staff / Community Organizations / Student Organizations (RSOs). Nominations close Friday, March 3.

VCEA Three-Minute Thesis – Nominations Due March 3

The 3MT research communication competition challenges graduate students to present a compelling oration on their thesis and its significance in just three minutes- and using just one visual slide- in a language appropriate to a non-specialist audience. The first, second and third prize winners will receive $1500, $1000, and $500 respectively towards a VCEA fall 2023 scholarship.

The VCEA 3MT competition will be held on Friday, March 10 at 2 pm, and nominations are due March 3.

LGBTQ+ Faculty/Staff Distinguished Achievement Award – Nominations Due March 5

The President’s Commission for Gender Identity/Expression and Sexual Orientation (GIESO) is accepting nominations for an award to celebrate and honor excellence within the LGBTQ+ community at WSU.

IDEA Grants – Apply by March 13

Washington State University faculty seeking to innovate and to promote issues of inclusion, diversity, equity, and access (IDEA) in undergraduate teaching and learning can apply between Jan. 15 and March 13, for two grants from the Office of the Provost and Executive Vice President. The awards are the Smith Teaching and Learning Grant and the Transformational Change Initiative (TCI) Grant for Advancing IDEA.

WSU Women of Distinction Awards – Nominations Due March 13

The President’s Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is accepting nominations for the Women of Distinction Awards. Please help us recognize the achievements and contributions of our distinguished faculty, staff, alumna, and students across the WSU system and our society. Deadline to submit nominations is Monday, March 13 at 5:00 p.m.

Top Ten Senior Awards – Nominations Due March 24

The Top Ten Senior Awards provide an opportunity for faculty, staff, community members, and other students to nominate a deserving senior for their contributions to Washington State University. Nominations must be received by March 24.

Oaks Academic Technology Award – Nominations Due March 28

Nominations are now being accepted for the Oaks Academic Technology Award. The self-nominated award recognizes instructors for their innovative application of technology to transform teaching and learning in their classroom (face-to-face, asynchronous online, or videoconferencing).

The winner will receive $3,000 in faculty development funds, distributed to the award winner’s academic department. To apply or learn more about the award, including the evaluation rubric, visit the Oaks award application webpage.

WSU Alumni Association Award – Nominations Due April 7

Deadline extended! The WSUAA is now accepting award nominations to recognize WSU alumni, faculty/staff, students, volunteers, and friends whose hard work and dedication make Washington State University and our Alumni Association the best organizations in the world!

GPSA Dissertation Grant – Apply Today

The Awards and Scholarships Committee offers dissertation grants to support the research needs of WSU Ph.D. students. These grants will be awarded on a rolling basis to help cover expenses generated as students work to complete their dissertation projects.
