Spatio-Cinemati Betwixt: Architecture, Film, and the In-between is the title of a new book edited by Vahid Vahdat. The book investigates the filmic creation of spatial imaginaries through the anthropological lens of “liminal space.”

Crimson Bot Brawl – Fall 2023:
The Crimson Bot Brawl is a combat robotics competition featuring 3-pound “beetleweight” robots. These bots will battle it out over an exciting day of matches to determine the ultimate champion! The competitors include many members of WSU’s combat robotics club Crimson Robotics, as well as non-student contenders from the greater PNW area. Come stop by for some destructive fun!

Dead Week is Now Prep Week

To clear up confusion, the Office of the Provost, in partnership with the Faculty Senate and Student Affairs, has changed the Academic Regulation terminology from Closed Week, or “Dead Week,” to Preparation Week, or “Prep Week.”

APAC Photo Contest – Enter by Nov. 30

The Administrative Professional Advisory Council encourages any WSU Administrative Professional (AP) Employee to submit up to three photos by 5:00pm November 30th showcasing your unique WSU location based on five photo contest categories. Winners will receive a round of Cougar Gold Cheese from Ferdinands.

WSU Women* of Distinction Nominations Due Dec. 1

The President’s Commission on the Status of Women is accepting nominations for the Women* of Distinction Awards. Please help us recognize the achievements and contributions of Women of Distinction and their allies at, or collaborating with, WSU.

Employee Excellence Award – Nominations Due Dec. 6

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2023–24 President’s Employee Excellence Awards. The award is presented annually to recognize outstanding contributions by WSU administrative professionals and classified employees. Award recipients each receive $2,500 and will be recognized at the annual Showcase event to be held in the spring of 2024.

Undergraduate Research Awards – Apply by Jan. 26

Washington State University undergraduate students can apply online now through Jan. 26 for any of eight awards to support their mentored undergraduate research, scholarship, and creative activities in academic year 2024–25.

The Regents’ Distinguished Alumnus Award, first presented in 1962, is the highest honor bestowed upon a Washington State University alumnus. The Regents’ Distinguished Alumnus Award honors alumni who have made a truly distinguished contribution to society or who, through personal achievement, have brought distinction to Washington State University.

The U.S. Department of Energy is tasking students to create & present a business plan around energy tech and tasking faculty to elevate energy entrepreneurship at their school.

2024 Environmental Fellows Program – Apply by Jan.15

The Environmental Fellows Program at the Yale School of the Environment is a nationally competitive summer fellowship program for master’s and doctoral students that seeks to place students traditionally underrepresented in the environmental field and those committed to the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion in summer fellowships with environmental foundations and their grantees.

JCATI Request for Proposals – Apply by March 15

The Joint Center for Aerospace Technology Innovation (JCATI) announces our 2024-25 Request for Proposals.

JCATI funds WA aerospace industry access to WA public university engineering expertise. Industry pairs with a faculty having the appropriate expertise to address company TRL 4-7 technology roadblocks. The industry partner provides the technology pain point and in-kind goods or services. The academic partner submits the application and receives JCATI funds to support engineering students working on the project. The project benefit and impact must occur within WA.
