Go Cougs!

Oregon Public Broadcasting ran a story on how researchers at Washington State University Vancouver are developing computer components made of honey to cut back to e-waste.

The WSU ASME Club, advised by Roland Chen, received the Student Section Achievement Award for 2023-2024.

Amit Bandyopadhyay received the 2024 Outstanding Contributions Award from the International Journal of Extreme Manufacturing.

An algorithm developed by Washington State University Shubhomoy Das, Rakibul Islam, Nitthilan Kannappan Jayakodi, and Jana Doppa can better find data anomalies than current anomaly-detection software, including in streaming data.

Yuan Zhi and Mani Venkatasubramanian’s received the IEEE PES Technical Committee Prize Paper Award for their paper, “Analysis of energy flow method for oscillation source location.”

WSU Insider featured a story on WSU’s study abroad exchange program with Denmark’s Aarhus University, a program developed by Joseph Iannelli and started with Shelley Pressley.

NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program

Faculty advisors of graduate students, please encourage your students to apply for the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GFRP), providing 3 years of support. Deadline is October 17, 2024. Prof. Haluk Beyenal in the dean’s office has offered to help students prepare their application.

ORAP Funding Opportunities

The WSU Office of Research Advancements and Partnerships (ORAP) highlights the latest funding opportunities over $1M from six federal agencies, and curates a list of current limited submissions each week on our website. The lists are updated weekly from the Pivot database and you can explore and filter the funding opportunities using keywords.

Fall Career Expo & Technical Fair October 7-8

Save the date! The WSU/VCEA Fall Career Expo & Technical Fair will be hosted virtually on Handshake on Monday, October 7, 11-2, and in-person at Beasley Coliseum on Tuesday, October 8, from11-3. The VCEA-sponsored fair is the premier way students connect with employers looking to fill internships and full-time roles. Kindly consider this when drafting your syllabus for the upcoming fall semester.

WSU Compliance Training

For WSU to operate in compliance with state and federal laws and protect itself and the WSU community from unnecessary harm, it is critical for employees to understand their responsibilities. Required trainings are designed to educate you on your role in maintaining a compliant workplace.

Visit the HRS website for information about Required Trainings: Employee Rights & Responsibilities Under Executive Policy #15, Ethics in Public Service, Hazing Prevention, Cyber Security Awareness, and Safety Training. Employees may have additional trainings required for their specific roles. Supervisors should ensure their staff have completed all required trainings.

Employees can view their required assignments in Percipio, by going to the homepage or selecting the “My Profile” circle in the top right corner and selecting “Assignments” from the dropdown menu. For questions about accessing Percipio or identifying your learning administrators, contact HRS Training.
