Partha Pande was interviewed by the Times of India about his experiences in academia and his involvement with the state of Washington’s CHIPS and Science Act working group.

A Washington State University mechanical engineering student team designed a wheelchair obstacle course that they hope can raise awareness for non-wheelchair users about the challenges that those with disabilities face daily. Fourteen students worked on the project for the Disability Action Center NW as part of their senior engineering design class taught by Nandita Biswas.

CougStarter, Washington State University’s crowdfunding platform to support student clubs and organizations, recently announced a record high in participation with fundraising totals for Fall 2024. Among those 18 participating groups, Wazzu Racing raised the most funds for a single group at $7,550.

Showcase 2025 – Submit Your Abstracts by Jan. 22

Faculty, staff, and graduate and professional students- Join your fellow WSU scholars statewide in presenting your discoveries and creative work at Academic Showcase and the GPSA Research Exposition, anchor events for WSU’s Showcase week. As a participant in these events, you will have the opportunity to share your work firsthand with colleagues, students, and the public. You’ll field questions, exchange ideas, and connect with potential collaborators, as WSU celebrates you and your contributions to our university. 

Undergrad Researcher Awards – Apply by Jan. 31

Washington State University undergraduate students can apply online now through Jan. 31 for any of eight awards to support their mentored research, scholarship, and creative activities in academic year 2024–25.

SURCA Abstracts Due Feb. 18

The Showcase for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities (SURCA) will take place on Monday, March 24, 2025. SURCA provides the unique single venue for undergraduate students from all years in college, majors, and campuses to disseminate the results of their research, scholarship, and creative activity.

The online application for SURCA abstracts is now open and all undergraduate students are encouraged to submit an abstract to present their work at SURCA 2025. 

SURCA – Faculty Judges Needed!

Are you a faculty member or post-doctoral researcher interested in serving as a SURCA judge? Typically, at least three judges meet with each presenter, so SURCA always needs plenty of faculty members, post-doctoral researchers, and experts from the community. A short training on March 20 will be required for post-candidacy doctoral students to help prepare them to serve as a SURCA judge. Information about serving as a judge and the online sign-up form are available on the SURCA website.

Required Training Due Dec. 31

All WSU employees are required to complete annual trainings in Percipio, the WSU online training system, including:

  • 2024 Hazing Prevention Training
  • 2024 Minimizing Unconscious Bias & Microaggressions
  • 2024 WSU Cyber Security Awareness
  • 2024 EP-15 Required Training
  • 2024 EP-45 Required Training
  • 2024 Title IX Required Training

These trainings are required to be completed by employees per federal regulation. For other information on required employee trainings, please visit University Required Training website.
