Aug. 14, 2018 Voiland College This Week

Go Cougs!

Ali Mehrizi-Sani was presented with the IEEE Outstanding Young Engineer Award at IEEE’s national conference in Portland.

Voiland College supporters helped WSU surpass $145M in fundraising in 2018.

PACCAR researchers hosted a tour by U.S. House of Representatives Mike Conaway and Cathy McMorris-Rogers.

The National Institute of Building Sciences, Off-Site Construction Council, Associated Schools of Construction, and Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture released the results of a survey, co-authored by Ryan E. Smith, to understand how institutions of higher education are teaching about off-site construction methods (PDF).

Safety Tip of the Week

Slow Down, Look Out

In 2011, 4,432 pedestrians were killed and an estimated 69,000 were injured in traffic crashes in the United States.

As a driver, make sure to always watch for pedestrians at all times. Always stop for pedestrians at crosswalks and never pass vehicles that are stopped at a crosswalk, as they are stopped to allow a pedestrian to cross.

Also to note:

  • The speed limit around most areas of the WSU Pullman campus is 20 miles per hour.
  • The fine for violating the state of Washington’s distracted driving law is $136.

For more safety tips, contact Environmental Health and Safety at ehs@wsu.edu.

Award and Research Opportunities

Requests for Proposals, Research Announcements, and Events

Please note: As of August 15, 2018, there are no more “submission windows” for unsolicited proposals to most of the core programs in the Engineering directorate of NSF (other directorates maintain proposal windows for unsolicited proposals). Investigators can submit proposals to these programs at any time during the year.

There is a DOE Nuclear Energy Webinar Aug. 7-9 that discusses the upcoming calls for universities.
