WSU Student Reactor Operator Training – Applications Due Aug. 15

Each year the WSU Nuclear Science Center offers a Student Reactor Operator Training Program in which WSU students are able to complete the necessary training in order to test for a Reactor Operator License with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. This is a very unique opportunity that NSC is able to offer as the only research reactor in Washington State.

Take Accessibility Training

WSU is committed to making its website content available and usable for all people. This includes making content accessible to people with disabilities.

An online training program has been created to equip people with the fundamental skills needed to make websites accessible and to help meet WSU, state, and federal accessibility guidelines, regulations, and laws. The training is required annually.

Anyone who has a role in creating or updating WSU website content should take this training. While the training is Web focused, it will also help you begin to understand what needs to be considered when developing all electronic content including email (and attachments), press releases, posts for social media, and digital displays. Take WSU’s accessibility training.

Multiple live and online resources are now available on the Web Communication website.

State of Washington Water Research Center

The State of Washington Water Research Center (WRC) was established by the American Water Resources Research Act of 1964 as one of the National Institutes for Water Resources. Over it’s more than half century of work on water resources for the benefit of the State of Washington, The WRC has become an integral connection between academics; local, state, and federal government; and the private sector.

The WRC has a threefold mission:

  1. To oversee and conduct applied water-related research.
  2. To foster the education and training of our nation’s future water professionals.
  3. To serve as a nexus within the academic community by transferring research results to those who manage or use the nation’s water resources.

Inclusive Education Ideas

Encourage students to be prepared for class, keep up, and do well

Outline how you make your assessment: How will you assign the course grade at the end of the semester? How many assignments will you grade? Do you have grading policies and/or rubrics or criteria for grading?

Be Safe Cougs

Sun Protection

More people are diagnosed with skin cancer each year in the U.S. than all other cancers combined.

The Skin Cancer Foundation recommends using a sunscreen with an SPF 15 or higher as one important part of a complete sun protection regimen.

Sunscreen alone is not enough, however.

  • Seek the shade, especially between 10 AM and 4 PM.
  • Do not burn.
  • Avoid tanning and UV tanning beds.
  • Cover up with clothing, including a broad-brimmed hat and UV-blocking sunglasses.
  • Use a broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher every day. For extended outdoor activity, use a water-resistant, broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher.
  • Apply 1 ounce (2 tablespoons) of sunscreen to your entire body 30 minutes before going outside. Reapply every two hours or immediately after swimming or excessive sweating.
  • Keep newborns out of the sun. Sunscreens should be used on babies over the age of six months.
  • Examine your skin head-to-toe every month.
  • See your physician every year for a professional skin exam.
