Led by Yuehe Lin, researchers are using tiny tubes made from organic molecules called peptoids to deliver cancer-killing drugs in a targeted manner.

Annie Du led a group of researchers in creating a nanozyme consisting of single iron atoms embedded in nitrogen-doped carbon nanotubes. Detailed in the journal Small, the team solved a problem with nanozymes – their inability to match the catalytic activity of natural enzymes.

Mary Rezac accepted the President’s Safety Award for Voiland College’s efforts to improve lab safety.

A team of researchers, including Biresh Kumar Joardar, Priyanka Ghosh, Partha Pratim Pande, Ananth Kalyanaraman and Sriram Krishnamoorthy, received a best paper award at the recent IEEE/ACM International Symposium on Networks-on-Chip (NOC’19.

Joshua Kernan, Pablo Yong, Jose Avilia, Philip Whitworth, Elizabeth Makizuru, Robbie Englehart, Christina Paoletti and Gus Bronk recently were awarded scholarship grants from the Gene Haas Foundation.

Recent grad Lars Neuenschwander’s startup company Appiture was featured by the Spokane Journal of Business.

The Daily Evergreen featured a story on the WSU National Society of Black Engineers first-ever fall forum.

President’s Employee Excellence Awards – nominations due Nov. 22

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2019-2020 President’s Employee Excellence Awards.

The award is presented annually to recognize outstanding contributions by WSU administrative professional and classified employees. Award recipients each receive $2,500 and will be recognized at the annual Showcase event to be held in March. The nomination form can be found at the Employee Excellence website.

CPS – Center for Produce Safety Call for Preliminary Research Proposals Due Nov. 12

The Center for Produce Safety prioritizes research programs that support the development of solutions for critical industry produce safety needs across the entire supply chain.

DOE Office of Science Graduate Student Research (SCGSR) Program Applications Due Nov. 14

The SCGSR program supports supplemental awards to outstanding U.S. graduate students to conduct part of their graduate thesis research at a DOE national laboratory/facility in collaboration with a lab scientist for a period of 3 to 12 consecutive months—with the goal of preparing graduate students for scientific and technical careers.

ORNL Jump into STEM Team Challenge: Apply by Nov. 15

The JUMP into STEM initiative seeks to inspire the next generation of building scientists, focusing on creative ideation and diversity in the building science field. Undergrad and grad students could win a 2020 paid summer internship at Oak Ridge National Laboratory or the National Renewable Energy Laboratory.
