The latest edition of Washington State Magazine features several stories on Voiland College faculty and alumni, including Pizhong Qiao’s research on bridge health, Von Walden’s personal connection to the McNair Scholarship, and atmospheric research in the Arctic, and alum Paul Enquist’s victory in the Summer Olympic Games.

Herman and Brita Lindholm Endowed Chair professors Amit Bandyopadhyay and Susmita Bose recently published the second edition of their book, Additive Manufacturing.

Mona Ghandi and Hassan Ghasemzadeh’s student REU project is the subject of this month’s feature on the Voiland College website.

Kristian Gubsch is one of eight students nationwide chosen to serve as a delegate for the American Chemical Society at the upcoming U.N. meeting in Madrid, Spain.

Architecture graduate Students Jake Monroe, Coleman Coddington, Gabriel Hernandez, and Ezekiel Nelson took home the grand prize at the recent Hack-A-House hackathon.

Bobby Belter and Glen Bennett will represent WSU at the upcoming EGF Power Five Esports Invitational.

Prefabricated housing expert Ryan Smith was interviewed in a Seattle Times article about that industry.

CPS – Center for Produce Safety Call for Preliminary Research Proposals Due Nov. 12

The Center for Produce Safety prioritizes research programs that support the development of solutions for critical industry produce safety needs across the entire supply chain.

DOE Office of Science Graduate Student Research (SCGSR) Program Applications Due Nov. 14

The SCGSR program supports supplemental awards to outstanding U.S. graduate students to conduct part of their graduate thesis research at a DOE national laboratory/facility in collaboration with a lab scientist for a period of 3 to 12 consecutive months—with the goal of preparing graduate students for scientific and technical careers.

ORNL Jump into STEM Team Challenge: Apply by Nov. 15

The JUMP into STEM initiative seeks to inspire the next generation of building scientists, focusing on creative ideation and diversity in the building science field. Undergrad and grad students could win a 2020 paid summer internship at Oak Ridge National Laboratory or the National Renewable Energy Laboratory.

ORAP Grant Writing Workshop Nov. 18 – RSVP REQUIRED

Join Office of Research Advancement and Partnerships (ORAP) proposal consultants Dr. Robert Finney, and Maureen Bonnefin, CRA for a full day grant writing workshop on November 18th from 9am to 3pm. Learn how to become a more effective grant proposal writer through hands-on, interactive activities designed to create desire for your project. Data shows that attending ORAP’s grant writing courses significantly increases your award success rate. Learn more about the workshop HERE. Faculty interested in NSF CAREER proposals are highly encouraged to attend. Faculty are given priority for these workshops, post docs are admitted as space permits. Unfortunately Zoom and AMS are not available. Space is limited. RSVP is required.

President’s Employee Excellence Awards – Nominations Due Nov. 22

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2019-2020 President’s Employee Excellence Awards. The award is presented annually to recognize outstanding contributions by WSU administrative professional and classified employees. Award recipients each receive $2,500 and will be recognized at the annual Showcase event to be held in March. Nomination form.

U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory Summer Faculty Fellowship Program – Apply by Nov. 29

The Air Force Office of Scientific Research is pleased to announce that the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory Summer Faculty Fellowship Program is currently accepting applications for FY2020 until 29 November 2019 from qualified faculty members interested in conducting research at Air Force (AF) Research Labs/Centers. Visit their website to review FY2020 Research Program Opportunities and start coordinating with an Air Force Advisor in preparation for your application.

2020 New Faculty Seed Grant Program – Apply by Dec. 6

The Office of Research is pleased to announce that the application process for the 2020 New Faculty Seed Grant Program is now open. The primary goal of this program is to support junior level faculty in developing research, scholarly, or creative programs that have a strong potential to lead to sustained projects while enhancing opportunities for extramural funding for these projects. Researchers, scholars and artists who have been appointed to a junior level faculty position no earlier than May 16, 2016 are encouraged to apply by Dec. 6.

The WSU Office of Research, the WSU Graduate School, and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory are pleased to announce the call for applications for the fourth cohort of the Distinguished Graduate Research Program.
