Heping Liu has been appointed associate editor for JGR-Atmospheres, a journal published by American Geophysical Union.

Dave Torick is one of several LIFT Fellow highlighted in this week’s WSU Insider. LIFT faculty fellows are able to transform their courses using methods that have been shown to increase student engagement, connection, and learning. LIFT Fellowship applications are due Feb. 6.

WSU created a new web portal that includes information to connect faculty interested in artificial intelligence across WSU, serving as a resource for researchers as well as for collaborators and supporters.

IREACH Proposals Due March 10

The Institute for Research and Education to Advance Community Health is currently accepting applications for grants to foster research at Washington State University that will provide significant and innovative contributions to American Indian, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander, LatinX, or rural health. Applications from faculty members in any discipline to fund research on health disparities impacting these populations are welcome.

Dedra Buchwald, MD, Director, IREACH, Clemma Muller, PhD, Methods Core Co-leader, and Caitlin Oberst, JD, Associate Director, IREACH, will conduct an application support meeting via Zoom on February 11 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Prospective applicants are encouraged, but not required, to attend.

WSU Undergraduate Research Awards – Apply by Feb. 15

WSU students can apply for awards to support their mentored research, scholarship, and creative activities in academic year 2020-21.

WSU Student Employee of the Year – Nominations due Feb. 15

This institution-wide contest looks at student employees who go above-and-beyond the basic expectations. Nominations are due Feb. 15.

VCEA 3-Minute Thesis Competition – Nominations Due Feb. 28

Open to all doctoral candidates in good standing who have completed preliminary exams by March 6th, 2020, 3MT is challenging Ph.D. students to consolidate their ideas and research discoveries and to present their thesis and its significance in three minutes to a non-technical audience. Nominations due from departments Friday February 28th
The VCEA Competition: Thursday, March 5th at 2pm in ETRL 101 – 1st Place: $1500 scholarship and chance to compete at the WSU competition.
