A new $3.5 million National Science Foundation grant will allow researchers led by Von Walden to study the snow and atmospheric conditions in Greenland with the aim of providing better forecasts of the continent’s contribution to future sea level rise.

Data analytics major and WSU tennis player Michaela Bayerlova was named a WSU Student-Athlete of the Month.

Faculty mentor Gordon Taub and the Everett Wind Energy Team, in conjunction with KidWind will participate in the Technology Student Association (TSA) Washington State Conference on March 18.

The winners of the 2022 VCEA Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition were: First Place: Mohammad Aghababaei, Second Place: Bikal Pudasaini, and Third Place: Gretchen Tibbits. Mohammed will compete in the WSU 3MT Finals on March 24.

Happy Birthday! Mabel Taylor, WSU’s first female engineering graduate, (ME) was born on March 16, 1880.

SURCA Judges Needed!

The 10th annual Showcase for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities (SURCA) on March 28 provides the unique single venue for WSU undergraduate students from all years in college, majors, and campuses to disseminate the results of their research, scholarship, and creative activity. More than 30 Voiland College students are participating. Judges are needed! Please sign up by March 23.

AOI Teaching with Technology – March 24 @ 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm

In this free interactive workshop, you will learn about WSU-supported education technology tools and brainstorm strategies for using them in your course. Come ready to share your ideas, ask questions and learn about simple activities you can use to engage your students both online and in-person.

APAC Contribution Award – Nominations due March 22

The APAC Contribution Awards recognize administrative professionals who have made exceptional contributions to Washington State University and their respective areas or units.

March 22: Intro to the Kamiak High Performance Computer

On Tuesday, March 22, from 10:10 a.m–1 p.m., The Center for Institutional Research Computing’s (CIRC) will host a hands-on introductory workshop introducing basic High Performance Computing (HPC) concepts including job submission and file transfers. Learn to utilize freely available computing resources on WSU’s Kamiak HPC to power your research! This workshop will be held online; advance registration is required.

Oaks Academic Technology Award – Nominations Due March 22

Nominations are now being accepted for the sixth annual Oaks Academic Technology Award. The self-nominated award recognizes instructors for their innovative application of technology to transform teaching and learning in their classroom (face-to-face, asynchronous online, or videoconferencing).

The winner will receive $3,000 in faculty development funds, distributed to the award winner’s academic department. To apply or learn more about the award, including the evaluation rubric, visit the Oaks award application webpage.

Top Ten Senior Awards – Nominations Due March 25

The Top Ten Senior Awards provide an opportunity for faculty, staff, community members, and other students to nominate a deserving senior for their contributions to Washington State University.
